CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse junior guard Sophie Burrows has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Pitt guard Theresa Hagans Jr. earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for games played February 9-15.
ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by member schools and determined by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
PLAYER – Sophie Burrows, Jr., G, Syracuse (Lower Plenty, Victoria, Australia)
- Averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the field in a pair of ACC victories over Pitt (84-51) and Clemson (68-64).
- Matched a game high with 18 points and added five rebounds in Thursday’s 84-51 win at Pitt.
- Led all scorers with 19 points and recorded a career-high 16 rebounds, along with two assists and two steals in Sunday’s victory over Clemson.
- Committed just one turnover in 57 minutes on the court for the week.
ROOKIE – Theresa Hagans Jr., Fr., G, Pitt (Utica, New York)
- Averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals, and went a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line in a pair of ACC games last week.
- Recorded a team-high 13 points to go along with two rebounds and five assists on Thursday against Syracuse.
- Registered a career-high 33 points with three rebounds, six assists and six steals Sunday against SMU, becoming one of 12 players in the NCAA, and the only player in the ACC, to record that stat line, since 2009-10.
- The 33 points are the most by an ACC freshman this season and the most since then-freshman Hannah Hidalgo scored 35 points against Georgia Tech on February 1, 2024.
Women’s Basketball Notes
- ACC teams have played 31 non-conference games against teams ranked in the Associated Press (AP) Poll (32 against teams ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll), the most among peer power conferences.
- A total of 12 ACC teams are in the latest NET Top 60, tied for the second most of any conference. Louisville (No. 8), Duke (No. 10), North Carolina (No. 18) and NC State (No. 24) are currently inside the top 25.
- Three teams are currently ranked in the AP Top 25: Louisville (No. 8), Duke (No. 9) and North Carolina (No. 22). Syracuse is receiving votes.
