CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame graduate attackman Josh Yago earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Duke senior short-stick defensive midfielder Aidan Maguire picked up ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from February 16-22.
All five ACC teams are ranked in the latest USILA Coaches poll, highlighted by Notre Dame and North Carolina at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Duke is No. 5, Syracuse is No. 7 and Virginia is No. 13.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Josh Yago, Gr., A, Notre Dame (Denver, Colorado)
• Totaled nine points on the week with five goals and four assists, leading the Fighting Irish to wins over No. 3 Georgetown and Bellarmine.
• Posted a season-high five points in the win over Georgetown, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
• To go along with the attacking numbers, Yago also recorded season highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (2) against Georgetown.
• Finished with two goals and two assists in the win over Bellarmine despite playing around half the contest.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Aidan Maguire, Sr., SSDM, Syracuse (Sunderland, Maryland)
• Had a career day with four caused turnovers, three ground balls and two assists in Duke's solid 16-10 win over Jacksonville.
• Forced a career-high four turnovers to anchor a defensive effort that held the Dolphins to just 10 goals and only 30 shots for the game
• Also picked up three ground balls.
• Provided two assists, including one in the final seconds of the second quarter that gave Duke a two-goal lead at halftime. The two assists matched a career best.
