North Carolina & NC State Advance to 2026 NCAA Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – A pair of Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship, as North Carolina and NC State each earned super regional victories over the weekend.
 
The two teams will play for a trip to the semifinals on Friday, May 15.
 
No. 5 North Carolina 4, No. 12 Michigan 2
No. 5 seeded North Carolina claimed the doubles point and secured singles wins from No. 18 Oby Kajuru (6-2, 6-2) on court two, No. 42 Tatum Evans (5-7, 7-6, 7-5) on court three and Anna Frey (6-4, 1-6, 6-1) on court five to defeat No. 12 seeded Michigan, 4-2.
 
The Tar Heels advanced to the Elite Eight for the second straight season and the 14th time in program history. UNC will face No. 4 seeded Texas A&M in the quarterfinals on Friday.
 
No. 8 NC State 4, No. 9 Texas 2
No. 8 seeded NC State rallied from a 2-1 deficit with three straight singles wins on courts one, two and five to defeat No. 9 seeded Texas, 4-2.
 
After dropping the doubles point, the Wolfpack evened the match as No. 66 Lavinia Tanasie earned a straight-sets win (6-3, 6-2) on court four. Texas regained the lead before NC State closed strong behind victories from No. 26 Mia Slama (7-5, 6-0), No. 46 Anna Zyryanova (7-6 (4), 6-1) and Victoria Osuigwe (2-6, 6-4, 7-5).
 
NC State advances to its first Elite Eight since 2023 and fourth under head coach Simon Earnshaw. The Wolfpack will face No. 1 seed and host Georgia on Friday in Athens.
