This Week in ACC Field Hockey

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey action continues this week with 10 contests across four days, Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, September 20, highlighted by three conference matchups and two top-10 matchups.
 
The week's action begins Thursday night on the West Coast, when Stanford welcomes top-ranked Northwestern at 9 p.m. ET (ACCNX).
 
Friday’s four-game slate features the first two conference contests of the 2026 season. No. 9 Virginia travels to No. 8 Duke for a 6 p.m. ET matchup on ACCNX, while Boston College visits No. 16 Louisville at 6 p.m. ET on ACCNX. In its home opener on Friday, No. 12 Syracuse welcomes UMass Lowell at 4 p.m. ET on ACCNX, while Wake Forest travels to Towson, Maryland, for a neutral-site contest against Delaware at 4 p.m. ET (YouTube).
 
Off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2011, No. 18 California takes the field Saturday, facing No. 1 Northwestern at 5 p.m. ET in Davis, California. The match will be streamed live on YouTube.
 
No. 9 Virginia and No. 11 North Carolina square off in the lone Sunday conference game at noon ET on ACC Network. Four additional ACC teams will compete in non-conference action Sunday. Also at noon ET, No. 4 Wake Forest visits No. 5 Maryland for a showdown on Big Ten Network, while Boston College travels to #20 Ohio State (B1G+) and No. 16 Louisville hosts Saint Joseph's (ACCNX).

Noting ACC Field Hockey
  • The ACC’s seven ranked teams in the NFHCA Coaches Poll are the most of any conference.
  • Conference play opens this weekend throughout the ACC.
  • The ACC has three teams in the top-10 nationally, including No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 8 Duke and No. 9 Virginia.
  • The ACC holds .720 winning percentage in non-conference play this season - the best of any conference.
  • ACC teams will play four games against ranked non-conference opponents this weekend, highlighted by No. 18 California and Stanford battling No. 1 Northwestern, while No. 4 Wake Forest faces No. 5 Maryland.
  • For the second consecutive season, North Carolina was picked to win the ACC in a vote of the league’s nine head coaches. The Tar Heels garnered four first-place votes and were followed by Virginia, Duke and Wake Forest, all of which received at least one first-place vote.
  • California freshman defender Flore Uges was named the NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, September 16. Uges helped the Golden Bears move to 5-0 on the season after knocking off No. 8 Michigan and Michigan State on the road last week.
  • Uges is the second ACC player to be named NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week this season after Louisville’s Emily Young earned the honor on September 2.
