Thirteen From ACC Women's Soccer Selected in the NWSL Draft

ACC has three first-round selections

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Led by three first-round selections, 13 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were selected in the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft held Thursday in Philadelphia.
 
The ACC’s 13 draftees were the most of any conference.
 
 












Duke midfielder Rebecca Quinn, the 2017 ACC Midfielder of the Year, went third overall to the Washington Spirit, while teammate forward Imani Dorsey, the 2017 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, was picked fifth overall by Sky Blue FC. Portland selected Notre Dame midfielder Sandra Yu with the eighth overall pick.
 
Duke defender Schuyler DeBree, the 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, was selected first in the second round (11th overall) by Washington, and teammate midfielder Ashton Miller, heard her named called 11 picks later in the third round (22nd overall) by Boston.
 
Along with Miller, the ACC had six third-round selections, including North Carolina midfielder Megan Buckingham (24th overall) by Chicago, Wake Forest defender Ally Haran (25th overall) by Seattle and fellow Demon Deacon, midfielder Maddie Huster (26th overall) by Washington. Houston selected a pair of ACC players with its final two third round picks in Virginia forward Veronica Latsko (28th overall) and North Carolina midfielder Abby Elinsky (30th overall).

Three from the ACC heard their names called in the fourth and final round of the draft, led by North Carolina midfielder Joanna Boyles (32nd overall) by Boston, Duke goalkeeper EJ Proctor (34th overall) by Utah, and teammate defender Morgan Reid (38th overall) by Carolina.
 
The NWSL preseason begins February 19 and the first games will take place the weekend of March 24-25.
