ST. LOUIS, Mo. (theACC.com) - Florida State’s Jaelin Howell has been recognized as the 2020-21 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy recipient, presented annually to the top player in collegiate soccer.
Howell becomes the 15th player from current ACC membership to earn the highest individual award in college soccer, which is the most of any conference. Additionally, she is the second from Florida State to collect the accolade.
The Lone Tree, Colorado, native was the ACC Midfielder of the Year and helped lead Florida State to the national championship game before falling on penalty kicks.
Howell was tabbed a First Team All-ACC Selection and a United Soccer Coaches All-American and United Soccer Coaches All-Region honoree following a standout junior season.
She started all 16 games for the Seminoles at midfielder, leading FSU to its seventh ACC Championship and second in the last three years. Howell scored five goals and recorded two assists during the year.
All three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy were from the ACC, as Florida State’s Malia Berkely and North Carolina’s Brianna Pinto earned the distinction.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, a 10-pound crystal soccer ball awarded annually since 1967, honors the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer based on voting conducted by NCAA Division I coaches.
