ACC Announces Women’s Soccer Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Notre Dame graduate forward Sammi Fisher and Virginia junior forward Diana Ordoñez have been named ACC Women’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Florida State graduate defender Emily Madril and Virginia Tech sophomore goalkeeper Alia Skinner have been tabbed ACC Co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Fisher tallied three goals to lead the Fighting Irish to a perfect 2-0 week. She scored against Miami on Thursday to lead Notre Dame to a 5-0 victory and tallied her second brace of the season in a 4-1 win against Boston College on Sunday. Fisher opened the scoring just five minutes into the game and found the back of the net for the second time in the 89th minute. She now leads the conference with 10 goals this season.

Ordoñez came up big for the Cavaliers in both wins last week, as she scored the game-winning goal in Virginia's 1-0 win over previously unbeaten and second-ranked Duke on Thursday night. Her game-winning goal against Duke was the 11th of her career and her fourth this season. On Sunday, Ordoñez assisted on the game-winner in the 90th minute to lead UVa to a 2-1 victory at NC State, the first for the program in Raleigh since 2015. Ordoñez leads the Cavaliers with 19 points this season, contributing nine goals and an assist.

Madril anchored the Seminoles' defense in a pair of shutout wins against Pitt (5-0) and Louisville (3-0). With Madril leading the way, Florida State limited Pitt to just two shots (one shot on goal) and one corner kick. The FSU defender was up for the task once again on Sunday, as the Seminoles held Louisville to just three shots, with only one on goal, and one corner kick. Florida State owned a 75 to 25 percent advantage in the possession against the Panthers and a 67 to 33 percent edge in possession versus the Cardinals. The
Seminoles’ have now shut out six of 10 opponents and have outscored their ACC foes 12-1.

Skinner was stellar in goal for the Hokies last week, as she combined to make 22 saves on 25 shots faced against a pair of top-five opponents. She helped Virginia Tech earn its first-ever road point at No. 4 North Carolina last Thursday with a double overtime 2-2 draw. Skinner set a career high with 14 saves made against the Tar Heels - the most by an ACC goalkeeper this season and the most by a Virginia Tech keeper in the last five seasons. She followed that performance with eight saves against second-ranked Duke in a 1-1 draw, headlined by keeping the Blue Devils scoreless for the 31 minutes during which Tech was playing one woman down (red card).

Conference play continues this week for ACC women’s soccer, headlined by fourth-ranked North Carolina hosting seventh-ranked Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. on ACC Network.
