Clemson, Boston College Advance at ACC Women’s Tennis Championship

Clemson and Boston College posted wins Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The No. 12 seed Tigers rallied for a 4-3 triumph over No. 13 seed Virginia Tech, and No. 11 Boston College came from behind to topple No. 14 seed Louisville, 4-3.

Clemson moves on to play No. 5 seed NC State at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, while Boston College advances to take on No. 6 seed Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. Thursday.

No. 12 Clemson 4, No. 13 Virginia Tech 3
Clemson won the final three singles matches to come from behind and topple Virginia Tech. The Hokies cruised to the doubles point with wins from Elizabet Danailova/Rita Pinto and Erika Cheng/Sabina Richtrova and had a 3-1 lead after singles wins from Tamara Barad Itzhaki and Semra Asku at No. 2 and 5 singles, respectively.

Daniella Medvedeva got the Tigers on the board with a win at No. 4. Eleni Louka (No. 1), Samantha Buyckx (No. 6) and Jenna Thompson (No. 3) completed the comeback with consecutive victories.

No. 11 Boston College 4, No. 14 Louisville 3
In a match that featured four singles contests that went to three sets, BC came from behind to advance to the second round. Louisville took the doubles point on wins from Andrea Di Palma/Tatiana Simova and Chelsea Sawyer/Dina Chaika.

Di Palma and Simova scored singles wins at No. 1 and No. 5 for Louisville, but the Eagles got wins from Laura Lopez (No. 2), Plobrung Plipuech (No. 3) and Stephanie Sanchez (No. 4) to pull even before Muskan Mahajan earned a three-set win at No. 6 for BC’s match clincher.

Second-round action will be held Thursday, starting at 3:30 p.m. with No. 8 Florida State versus No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 5 NC State playing No. 12 Clemson. At 6 p.m., No. 7 Wake Forest takes on No. 10 Syracuse and No. 6 Georgia Tech facing off with No. 11 Boston College.

The quarterfinals start at 3:30 p.m. Friday with top-seeded North Carolina facing off with the Florida State-Notre Dame winner and No. 4 Virginia battling the NC State-Clemson winner. The 6 p.m. quarterfinals feature No. 2 Duke playing the Wake Forest-Syracuse winner and No. 3 Miami battling the  Georgia Tech-Boston College winner.

The semifinals will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday, while the championship match is slated for 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Saturday semifinal match featuring the highest remaining seed and the Sunday championship match will broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.

Championship ticket passes are $25. One-day entry passes are $10 for adults and $7 for children (age 9-17) and non-ACC college students. Children (8 and under) and ACC college students (with valid ID) are admitted free of charge.
