2022 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship Begins Wednesday


NOTRE DAME, Ind. (theACC.com) - The 2022 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship begins Wednesday at Notre Dame's Arlotta Stadium. North Carolina earned the top seed for the 25th edition of the championship. The first three rounds of the nine-team tournament will be hosted by Notre Dame, with the first round on Wednesday, quarterfinals on Friday and semifinals on Sunday. The championship game will then be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 7.
 
All eight games of the tournament will be televised on ACC Network and also will be available on ACC Network Extra.
 
North Carolina is the five-time reigning tournament champion, winning the title every year since 2016 (the 2020 championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Noting ACC Women's Lacrosse
• North Carolina is aiming for its sixth consecutive ACC Championship. The ACC women's lacrosse record for consecutive titles is six, set by Maryland from 2009-14.
• The All-ACC and All-Freshman Teams were announced Tuesday. The season awards will be announced prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament.
• UNC’s Jamie Ortega, Taylor Moreno and Emma Trenchard and Syracuse’s Emily Hawryschuk each were voted to the All-ACC First Team for the third time. The UNC trio earned first-team honors for the third straight season, while Hawryschuk claimed the distinction after missing most of the 2021 season with a knee injury. She also was a first-team honoree in 2018 and 2019.
• There are seven repeat first-team honorees from the 2021 first team, with Ortega, Moreno and Trenchard joining BC's Charlotte North and Belle Smith, UNC’s Ally Mastroianni and Syracuse’s Meaghan Tyrrell.
• Pitt graduate attack Paige Petty was named to the All-ACC Team for the fourth time in her career.
• Six ACC programs are ranked among the top 25 in the latest IL Women/IWLCA poll: UNC (1), BC (2), Syracuse (3), Duke (7), Virginia (16) and Notre Dame (20). That is the most of any league nationally.
• At 15-0, North Carolina is the  only remaining unbeaten team in Division I women's lacrosse.
• ACC teams own a 63-17 (.788) record against non-conference foes this season, the most wins and best win percentage of all leagues nationally.
• ACC teams own six of the top 25 spots in the latest NCAA RPI: UNC (1), BC (3), Syracuse (4), Duke (10), Notre Dame (22) and Virginia (23).
• Six ACC programs rank among the top 10 nationally in strength of schedule: UNC (2), Syracuse (3), ND (7), BC (8), UVa (9) and Louisville (10).
• Four of the top six active goal scorers in Division I hail from the ACC – BC's Charlotte North (1st, 334), UNC's Jamie Ortega (2nd, 318), Syracuse's Emily Hawryschuk (5th, 266) and Pitt's Paige Petty (6th, 244).
• Five ACC teams rank among the top 25 teams nationally in scoring offense: UNC (2nd, 17.7), BC (3rd, 17.4), Duke (5th, 17.1), Syracuse (8th, 16.5), ND (19th, 15.3) and UVa (22nd, 15.0).
• The reigning Tewaraaton honoree, BC's Charlotte North ranks fourth nationally and leads the ACC with 68 goals this season. North broke the ACC career goals record on Feb. 19 and now has 334 career goals. She needs seven goals to match the NCAA record.
• North is on track to become the first player since Maryland's Katie Scharzmann (2011-12) to lead the ACC in goals per game in consecutive seasons.
• Three ACC head coaches rank among the top 10 active Division I head coaches in wins: UNC's Jenny Levy (3rd, 388), Virginia's Julie Myers (5th, 346) and Duke's Kerstin Kimel (6th, 331).
• The ACC's nine head coaches have combined to win 1,627 career games. 
• There are three new coaches in ACC women's lacrosse this year: Pitt's Emily Boissonneault, Syracuse's Kayla Treanor and Virginia Tech's Kristen Skiera.
• This marks the 26th season of ACC women's lacrosse begins. The league expanded to nine programs this year as Pitt plays in its inaugural season and moves to 10 in 2023 with Clemson making its debut.
• Thirteen of the 16 First-Team All-ACC honorees from last season are back for 2022. 
• Boston College won its first NCAA Championship last season, downing ACC rival Syracuse, 16-10, in the title game. The ACC now owns 16 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse titles. 
• The ACC has had a team in the national title game 11 times in the last 12 seasons.
• The ACC has had at least one team in the national semifinals in 31 straight tournaments and 35 times overall.
