Noting ACC Baseball – March 14
• Nine ACC teams enter the week ranked in at least one major poll, with Louisville as high as No. 2 by Collegiate Baseball and as high as No. 3 by Baseball America. The Cardinals (14-1) have won nine straight games, matching their longest winning streak since early in the 2020 season.
• Boston College (12-2) also turned heads last week with a road win at then-No. 2 Tennessee, followed by a series win at Virginia Tech, ranked as high as No. 10 nationally. Unranked last week, the Eagles found their way into three major polls this week and ranked as high as No. 18 by both Baseball America and Perfect Game. The Eagles’ 12-2 start is the best in program history, eclipsing 11-3 through the first 14 games of 2016; the last season BC reached the NCAA Tournament. Last Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at Virginia Tech was BC’s first in ACC play since 2017 against NC State.
• Virginia was the nation’s last remaining NCAA Division I team before falling to North Carolina in the second game of last Saturday’s twin bill. The Cavaliers, ranked among the top 10 nationally in four major polls this week, opened the season with 14 consecutive wins. NC State was also among the nation’s final three unbeaten teams.
• Following last weekend’s non-conference series sweeps by Clemson and Louisville, ACC teams own a 143-38 record (.790) versus non-league opposition, including a 106-17 mark in home games. Sixteen midweek games are slated, including Georgia Tech’s road trip to Auburn.
• Virginia’s ACC series opener at NC State on Thursday night will be the first of eight conference games that ACC Network will feature on Thursday nights throughout the spring, with all eight contests being conference matchups. Upcoming games following this week include Duke at North Carolina (March 23, 7 p.m.), Wake Forest at Clemson (March 30, 7 p.m.), Clemson at Florida State (April 6, 8 p.m.), Miami at North Carolina (April 13, 7 p.m.), Miami at Louisville (April 27, 7 p.m.), NC State at Notre Dame (May 4, 7 p.m.) and Florida State at Louisville (May 18, 7 p.m.). In addition to the Thursday games, ACCN coverage in 2023 will be highlighted by all four days of pool play and the semifinals of the ACC Baseball Championship May 23-28 from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. ESPN2 will televise the title game on Sunday, May 28.
