GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College graduate attack Jenn Medjid notched Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Syracuse senior goalie Delaney Sweitzer claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Medjid led the Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over Boston University and No. 12 Virginia. The native of Garden City, New York, paced the Eagles with 12 goals and 13 points. She scored at least five goals in both games, including a season-high tying seven scores with eight points against BU. Medjid followed that up with a five-goal outing in the 12-goal victory over UVA, helping BC tie the program’s single-game goals record of 25. She surpassed the 300-career point mark with her first goal, becoming one of three players in school history to reach the milestone.
Sweitzer tied her career high with 15 saves in Syracuse’s win at No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday. Three of her saves came on free-position attempts. A native of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, Sweitzer also matched her career high with six ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers. After the Orange took a 13-12 lead with 3:51 remaining, Sweitzer made a save and picked up a ball on the Tar Heels’ next possession to preserve the lead as the Orange went on to snap North Carolina’s 41-game home winning streak. She now owns six 10-plus save performances this season.
Six ACC teams are ranked in the latest IL Women/IWLCA national poll, with Syracuse maintaining a No. 1 ranking for the fifth straight week. Boston College (5), North Carolina (6), Notre Dame (7), Virginia (11) and Clemson (17) also are ranked. The ACC’s six ranked teams are the most of any conference.
The regular season concludes Thursday night. The No. 1 seed for the upcoming ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship, presented by Ally, is up for grabs, as Boston College travels to Syracuse, with the winner claiming the top seed. ACC Network will broadcast the game at 7 p.m. ESPNU will air the North Carolina at Duke contest at 5:30 p.m.
