Trio of ACC Teams Punch Tickets to NCAA Quarterfinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Three Atlantic Coast Conference programs advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship following first-round wins this weekend. Top-seeded Duke, No. 2 seed Virginia and No. 3 seed Notre Dame all posted home wins and will play next weekend in the quarters. 

Duke will play Michigan and Virginia will play No. 7 seed Georgetown on Saturday in Albany, New York. Notre Dame will take on No. 6 seed Johns Hopkins on Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland.

The Cavaliers pulled away for a 17-8 triumph over Richmond on Saturday. UVa was led by Payton Cormier, who tied a program NCAA Tournament record with six goals. Petey LaSalla dominated the faceoff X by winning 18 of his 27 attempts.

Notre Dame rolled to a 20-7 victory over Utah on Saturday. The attack was led by senior Jake Taylor, who scored a season-high five goals, including a first quarter hat trick. Taylor’s five goals tie the program record for goals in an NCAA Tournament game. Pat Kavanagh turned in another big performance, totaling seven points off three goals and four assists.

Duke rallied from a four-goal deficit to down Delaware, 12-11, on Sunday. Dyson Williams recorded a hat trick, while Brennan O'Neill scored a goal and added three assists. William Helm made 11 saves in goal.
