This Weekend in ACC Gymnastics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The sixth week of Atlantic Coast Conference gymnastics features Pitt hosting No. 23 Clemson on Friday evening and North Carolina facing rival NC State on Sunday.

NC State currently leads the league at 3-0 after an upset of then-No. 20 Clemson by 0.700, posting their highest road score so far this season with a 195.600. The Pack posted its highest floor score of the year in its third rotation at 49.350, while Emily Shepard captured the all-around crown with a four-event total of 39.350.

Noting ACC Gymnastics

  • No. 20 Clemson jumped four spots in the Road to Nationals rankings after a pair of conference wins over Pitt and North Carolina.
  • The Tigers' Brie Clark is tied at No. 16 in the nation and the Wolfpack's Chloe Negrete is No. 17 on vault.
  • Current leaders across the ACC for the second week in a row are:

  • Bars - Isabelle Schaefer, North Carolina
  • Beam - Rebecca Wells, Clemson
  • Floor - Brie Clark, Clemson
  • All Around - Emily Shepard, NC State
  • In the southeast region, The Tigers have six gymnasts that are ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in their respective events and own the top four spots on floor and bars in the ACC.
  • Only three gymnasts have scored a 9.950 in the southeast region, and two of them are from Clemson - Molly Arnold and Lauren Rutherford.
  • Pitt's Jah'Liyah Bedminster scored a career high 9.950 on vault to lead Pitt to its first ACC win over North Carolina last weekend, marking the first 9.950 on vault for the Panthers since 2004.
  • Clemson's floor score of 49.525 against NC State is the 15th highest score on the event in the nation this season.
  • Tickets are now on sale for the 2024 ACC Gymnastics Championship set for Saturday, March 23, at 7 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
  • NC State's Emily Shepard became the first gymnast in program history with 40 or more 9.9+ scores following her season-best scores on bars and floor against Pitt.
  • Clemson's score of 196.325 over William & Mary is the highest score posted by any program in its first meet of its inaugural season.
  • North Carolina and NC State were voted the favorites to claim the 2024 ACC Women's Gymnastics title following a vote of the league's four head coaches. Clemson came in third, followed by Pitt. 
  • The ACC announced in 2021 that women’s gymnastics would become the league’s 28th sponsored sport beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. The ACC previously sponsored a conference championship in women’s gymnastics in 1984.
  • ACC women's gymnastics will be featured on ACC Network and ESPN throughout the season, including the 2024 ACC Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 23, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
  • The conference released the 2024 Preseason Watch List, which featured eight gymnasts as nominated by the league’s four gymnastics programs, along with the Newcomer List, featuring one true freshman from each program. The full coaches poll and watch lists are here.
