2024 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship Begins Sunday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship opens Sunday with a pair of first-round games. No. 9 seed Louisville plays at No. 8 seed Virginia Tech at noon, and No. 10 seed Pitt travels to No. 7 seed Clemson at 2 p.m. Both games air on ACC Network.

The Sunday winners advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played Wednesday at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The semifinals will be contested Friday, with the championship game on Sunday, April 28. ACC Network will broadcast all nine games of the tournament.

Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia clinched first-round byes for the ACC Tournament and will open tourney play in the quarterfinals on Wednesday in Charlotte.

Six ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IL Women/IWLCA poll, including four in the top 10, with Syracuse (2), Notre Dame (3), Boston College and Virginia (T6), North Carolina (15) and Duke (25). The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.

Noting ACC Women's Lacrosse
• This is the 27th ACC Tournament. The first was held in 1997. Charlotte will play host to the event for the second time next week at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
• Syracuse has earned its first outright ACC regular-season title and is the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament for the first time.
• Boston College won its first ACC Championship in 2023, rallying to defeat six-time reigning champion North Carolina, 11-9, on April 30 in Charlotte.
• The NCAA DI Women's Lacrosse Committee announced its Top 10 Rankings for results through April 17, which includes Syracuse (3), Virginia (7), Notre Dame (8) and Boston College (10).
• 10 ACC players are nominees for the 2024 Tewaaraton Trophy. The is the most of any league.
• The All-ACC and ACC All-Freshman Teams will be announced Tuesday. The season awards will be announced prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament.
• In the NCAA's latest RPI, released Thursday, six teams are among the top 25: Syracuse (3), Virginia (6), Notre Dame (9), Boston College (12), North Carolina (18) and Clemson (25).
• Six ACC programs are ranked in the latest IL Women/IWLCA poll, including three in the top 10, with Syracuse (2), Notre Dame (3), Boston College and Virginia (T6), North Carolina (15) and Duke (25). That is the most of all conferences.
• ACC teams finished 58-15 (79.4%) in non-conference play during the regular season, the most wins and best win percentage of any conference.
• The ACC boasts three of the nation's top scoring offenses, with Notre Dame (3rd, 17.4), Boston College (4th, 16.9/game) and Syracuse (12th, 15.6).
• Boston College ranks third nationally in scoring defense at 8.1 goals allowed per game, while Notre Dame is 10th (8.7).
• Three ACC teams rank in the top 15 nationally in scoring margin: BC (2nd, +8.8/game), Notre Dame (3rd, +8.7) and Syracuse (13th, +5.8).
• BC's Rachel Clark and Duke's Katie DeSimone are tied for sixth nationally in goals this season with 58, while Louisville's Kokoro Nakazawa is eighth (57).
• Virginia Tech's Kayla Downey ranks second nationally with 52 assists this season, while BC's Mckenna Davis (50) and UVa's Morgan Schwab (48) are tied for third.
• Notre Dame's Kasey Choma owns 241 career goals, which is most among active ACC players and 10th in ACC history.
• 26 ACC players were named to the Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-America Team, including five first teamers: Sydney Scales (BC), Kasey Choma and Jackie Wolak (ND) and Katie Goodale (SU).
• Five ACC head coaches rank among the top 25 active Division I head coaches in wins: UNC's Jenny Levy (2nd, 421), Duke's Kerstin Kimel (6th, 350), ND's Christine Halfpenny (21st, 194) and BC's Acacia Walker-Weinstein (24th, 186) and UL's Scott Teeter (25th, 185).
• With Boston College reaching the NCAA championship game in 2023, at least one ACC team has played in the national title game in 13 of the last 14 seasons.
• With Boston College and Syracuse, the ACC had at least two teams competing in the NCAA's Championship Weekend for the 18th time in league history, including the fifth straight.
