Notre Dame Moves On to NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Game

2024 NCAA Tournament Bracket

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (theACC.com) – Top-seeded Notre Dame advanced to its second straight NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Game with a 13-6 victory over Denver in the national semifinals on Saturday in front of 32,269 spectators at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In the other semifinal, No. 6 seed Virginia lost to No. 7 seed Maryland, 12-6.

The championship game between Notre Dame and Maryland will be played Monday, May 27, at 1 p.m. on ESPN.

The ACC owns 18 NCAA Championships in men’s lacrosse, including three of the last four. The five active ACC teams have combined for 26 national championships, including 10 of the last 15.

Notre Dame becomes the 38th ACC team to reach the national championship game. The ACC has at least one team in the national championship game for the 16th time in the last 21 seasons.

In winning its 13th straight game, Notre Dame (14-1) advanced to its fourth national championship game in program history – all since 2010. The victory also marked head coach Kevin Corrigan’s 350th career win at Notre Dame, as he became the first men’s coach at the DI level to reach the milestone at one school.

The Kavanagh brothers each recorded hat tricks, with Pat Kavanagh adding a pair of assists, while Chris Kavanagh also recorded an assist. Devon McLane also scored a hat trick for the Irish. Will Lynch once again dominated at the faceoff dot, winning 18-of-23 attempts while also scooping up a game-high eight ground balls. Liam Entenmann recorded a dozen saves.

The Cavaliers (12-6) made their 26th appearance in the national semifinals, including their fourth in the last five tournaments. Freshman McCabe Millon scored a pair of goals for the Cavaliers. He finished the season with 41 goals, setting a UVA freshman record.

This marked the 25th time in which the ACC will have at least two representatives in the NCAA semifinals. At least one ACC team has advanced to the national semifinals in 49 of the 53 years in which the NCAA Tournament has been contested.
