ACC Announces Field Hockey Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – California forward Liz Klompmaker was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for field hockey, while Golden Bears’ goalkeeper Delphine Ayitey-Hammond and North Carolina back Grace Pottebaum were selected as the ACC Co-Defensive Players of the Week for matches played between October 6-12.
 
Liz Klompmaker, Forward, So., California (Groningen, The Netherlands)
  • Scored the game-winning goal in Cal’s 1-0 win over No. 5 Syracuse on Sunday.
  • The Golden Bears’ win was tied for the highest-ranked win in program history.
  • It marked Cal’s first win over Syracuse since 2005 and first ranked win since 2023.
  • Helped the Golden Bears to a perfect 2-0 weekend in conference play.
 
Delphine Ayitey-Hammond, Goalkeeper, So., California (London, England)
  • Registered13 saves to lead Cal to a 2-0 weekend.
  • Shut out No. 5 Syracuse with a career-high seven saves.
  • Logged six saves in Friday’s win over Boston College.
  • Forced four misses in a seven-round shootout to upend the Eagles.  
  • Fought off 13 penalty corners in the Golden Bears’ win over Syracuse.
 
Grace Pottebaum, Back, R-Jr., North Carolina (St. Albans, Missouri)
  • Helped the Tar Heels to shutout wins over No. 2 Virginia and No. 19 Louisville.
  • Anchored the back line in the win against Virginia as the Tar Heels allowed just two shots on goal – the fewest of the season for the Cavaliers.
  • In the win over Louisville, the Tar Heels did not surrender a shot until the fourth quarter.
  • Pottebaum blocked both Louisville shots, both of which came on penalty corners.
 
Noting ACC Field Hockey
  • Wake Forest is the lone undefeated team in ACC play through four weeks. The Demon Deacons are 4-0 in conference action and 11-2 overall.
  • For the fifth straight week, six ACC teams are represented in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches’ Poll, including five teams ranked in the top 10.
  • The ACC’s six ranked teams are tied for the most of any conference.
  • Entering Week 7 of the field hockey season, five of the top 10 teams in the RPI hail from the ACC, led by No. 1 North Carolina and No. 3 Virginia.
  • As a league, the ACC boasts the top overall and non-conference RPI.
