Stanford, Notre Dame Advance to Final of 2025 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship

CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – After two tightly contested matches on Thursday, top-seeded Stanford and second-seeded Notre Dame secured their spots in the final of the 2025 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship, set for Sunday, November 9, at noon ET at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.

#2 Notre Dame 2, #3 Duke 1
The 2025 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Izzy Engle opened the scoring in the 27th minute with her league-leading 18th goal of the season. The Blue Devils answered in the 41st minute when Kat Rader broke away from the Fighting Irish backline and found the back of the net. With the goal, the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime.

After a back-and-forth second half, Notre Dame striker Annabelle Chukwu delivered the decisive goal in the 88th minute to seal the victory. Morgan Roy slid a pass into the box through the Blue Devil defense, and Chukwu flicked in a shot to give the Fighting Irish a lead they would not relinquish.

With the win, Notre Dame advances to its first-ever ACC title match after reaching the semifinals four times prior to this season. It also marked the second time this year that the Fighting Irish defeated Duke, following a 3-2 victory on September 18.

#1 Stanford 3, #5 Virginia 2
Powered by three first-half goals, top-seeded Stanford held off a late rally to advance to its first-ever ACC Championship match. Charlotte Kohler scored back-to-back goals in the ninth and 31st minutes to give the Cardinal an early 2-0 advantage. Jasmine Aikey capped the first half with a spectacular 40-yard strike, sending Stanford into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.

Despite facing a three-goal deficit, Virginia’s offense came alive in the second half. The Cavaliers got on the scoreboard in the 58th minute when Meredith McDermott found the back of the net, then UVA capitalized on a penalty kick as Maggie Cagle converted for her eighth goal of the season. However, the comeback fell short as Stanford held on for its first-ever Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship victory.

The Cardinal outshot the Cavaliers 15-5 in the first half, while UVA evened the shot tally in the second half to make it 20-20.

The eight goals scored in the semifinals were tied for the most goals scored in the round since 2015.
