Florida State, Stanford Advance to NCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship Match

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (theACC.com) – For the second consecutive season, the national championship match of the NCAA Women’s College Cup will feature two Atlantic Coast Conference teams, as top-seeded Stanford and third-seeded Florida State earned their spots with semifinal wins Friday evening at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

It marks the eighth straight season at least one ACC team will compete in the national championship match, and the third time within that span that two ACC teams will play for the title (2018 and 2024). The eventual national championship will be the ACC’s 27th in conference history and 33rd among current membership.

The Seminoles punched their ticket to the title match with a 1-0 victory over second-seeded TCU. After a scoreless first half, Wrianna Hudson chipped in a Peyton McGovern cross in the 72nd minute for the eventual game-winner. The Florida State defense, which held the Horned Frogs to just two shots on goal, secured the win, capped off by a 90th-minute kick save from FSU goalkeeper Kate Ockene. The Noles return to the title match for the fourth time since 2018 and seek their fifth national championship.

The Cardinal sealed their spot in the final following a 10th-minute goal from a free kick off the foot of Jasmine Aikey, as they held off second-seeded Duke, 1-0.  Following the goal, the Stanford defense limited the Blue Devils to just two shots on frame for the reminder of the match and preserved the clean sheet. The Cardinal seek their fourth national title and first since 2019.

The national championship match is set for Monday, December 8, at 7 p.m. ET at CPKC Stadium. Stanford and Florida State will meet for the second time this season, as the Cardinal earned a 2-1 victory in their regular-season contest on October 16 in Tallahassee. It also marks the second time in the last three seasons Florida State and Stanford will meet in the final, as the teams met in the 2023 championship match, when the Seminoles earned a 5-1 win.
