ACC Announces Women’s Tennis Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Miyuka Kimoto was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and joined her doubles partner Nelly Knezkova in being named the ACC Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, while Georgia Tech’s Taly Licht was voted the ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week for matches played February 17-23.
 
ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Miyuka Kimoto, Sr., Syracuse, Oita, Japan
Posting the lone top-10 singles win last week across the conference, Kimoto faced four top 15 ITA ranked opponents last weekend as Syracuse opened up ACC play versus No. 3 North Carolina and No. 10 Duke. In the match against North Carolina on Friday, February 21, Kimoto fell short versus the No. 10 singles and No. 15 doubles but bounced back on Sunday, February 23, against Duke to record a pair of top-12 wins.
 
Kimoto partnered with Nelly Knezkova at the No.1 position in doubles to score a 6-3 victory over No. 11 Irina Balus and Elizabeth Coleman of Duke. She was also victorious against No. 8 ranked Balus in singles with a result of 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot.
 
ACC Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week

Miyuka Kimoto, Sr., Syracuse, Oita, Japan
Playing as a doubles team for the first time this spring season, Syracuse’s Knezkova and Kimoto earned a 6-3 victory at the No.1 doubles position over the No. 11 ranked pairing of Balus and Coleman of Duke in ACC play on Sunday. The win was the highest-ranked victory among all ACC doubles teams for the week.
 
ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week
Taly Licht, Fr., Georgia Tech, Hollywood, Florida
Licht went undefeated between doubles and singles over the weekend to help Georgia Tech open ACC play 1-1. On Friday at No. 27 Virginia Tech, Licht clinched the match in singles play, rebounding with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on court four. Licht partnered with Kate Sharabura in doubles to win GT’s only doubles match of the outing. As a team, the Jackets responded from dropping the doubles point to win four singles matches to take the road win.
 
Licht followed with another dominating performance on Sunday at No. 2 Virginia. Licht and Sharabura quickly wrapped up a doubles win, 6-1, on court three to give GT the edge in play before finishing first in singles action, collecting a 6-2, 6-3 win on court five to tie the match at 1-1.
