Notre Dame, Syracuse Play in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals This Weekend

-  Notre Dame and Syracuse play this weekend in the quarterfinals of the 2025 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. The No. 6 seed Orange face No. 3 seed Princeton on Saturday, May 17, at 2:30 p.m. ET in Hempstead, New York, and the Fighting Irish take on No. 5 seed Penn State at noon ET on Sunday, May 18, in Annapolis, Maryland. ?Both games air on ESPNU.

This marks the 49th time in the tournament's 54 years that the Atlantic Coast Conference has at least two teams in the quarters.

Following Notre Dame's second straight national championship in 2024, the ACC owns 19 NCAA championships in men's lacrosse. Current ACC membership collectively owns 27 NCAA championships, including 11 of the last 16 and 16 titles since 2000.

The five ACC men's lacrosse programs each were ranked in the final USILA Coaches poll of the regular season, with Syracuse at No. 5, Duke at No. 6, North Carolina at No. 8, Notre Dame at No. 10 and Virginia at No. 19.

Noting ACC Men's Lacrosse
• Notre Dame and Syracuse have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. At least two ACC teams have reached the quarterfinals in 49 of the 54 tournaments all-time.
• Four ACC teams earned 2025 NCAA Tournament bids, with Syracuse (6), Duke (7) and North Carolina (8) earning seeds and Notre Dame also notching a berth.
• The ACC owns 19 NCAA Championships, including four of the last five with Virginia in 2019 and 2021 and Notre Dame in 2023 and 2024.
• The five active ACC teams have combined for 27 national championships, including 11 of the last 16.
• Syracuse owns 10 NCAA titles (most of any NCAA program), while Virginia has won seven, UNC five, Duke three and Notre Dame two.
• Notre Dame captured its second straight NCAA Championship in 2024, winning four straight games by at least five goals each.
• A current ACC school has played in the NCAA Championship game in 20 of the last 23 tournaments.
• The ACC boasts 78 appearances in Championship Weekend, while current membership has combined for 87 appearances. For the 25th time in league history in 2024, the ACC had two representatives in the NCAA semifinals with Notre Dame and Virginia.
• At least one ACC team has advanced to the national semifinals in 49 of the 53 years in which the NCAA Tournament has been contested. 
• Syracuse won the 2025 ACC Championship on May 4 in Charlotte, downing Duke, 9-8, in the title game. It was SU's third ACC crown (2015, 2016).
• Notre Dame and North Carolina shared the ACC regular-season title, with the Fighting Irish earning the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament by virtue of their 12-6 win over UNC on April 19.
• The five ACC teams were ranked in the final USILA Coaches poll of the regular season, with Syracuse at No. 5, Duke at No. 6, North Carolina at No. 8, Notre Dame at No. 10 and Virginia at No. 19.
• 25 players earned 2025 All-America recognition from Inside Lacrosse – most of any league. Five ACC players claimed First-Team All-America honors: Duke’s Andrew McAdorey and Aidan Maguire, North Carolina’s Brady Wambach, Notre Dame’s Shawn Lyght and Syracuse’s Sam English. 
• Notre Dame's Chris Kavanagh was named one of five finalists for the 2025 Tewaaraton Award. Eight ACC players were tabbed as nominees for the award. 
• 11 ACC student-athletes were chosen in the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League Draft. The 11 ACC players selected were the most of any conference.
• Duke's Andrew McAdorey (No. 2, Redwoods), Syracuse's Sam English (No. 3, Redwoods) and SU's Owen Hiltz (8th, Chaos) each were selected in the first round.
• Three ACC teams rank among the top 20 in scoring offense: Notre Dame (7th, 13.8), Syracuse (10th, 13.6) and North Carolina (16th, 12.8).
• Four teams rank among the top 15 nationally in scoring defense: Notre Dame (6th, 8.8), North Carolina (13th, 9.3), Syracuse (17th, 9.7) and Duke (18th, 9.8).
• Syracuse's Joey Spallina is fifth nationally in assists per game (2.94) and eighth in points per game (4.76). ND's Chris Kavanagh is ninth nationally in points per game (4.69).
• Syracuse's John Mullen (3rd, .652) and UNC's Brady Wambach (5th, .643) rank among the top 5 nationally in faceoff winning percentage.
• Notre Dame's Thomas Ricciardelli ranks sixth nationally in goals-against average (8.74).
