Syracuse Heads to NCAA Championship Weekend on Saturday

-  Syracuse makes its first trip to NCAA Championship Weekend since 2013 on Saturday, May 24, as it competes in semifinals of the 2025 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. The No. 6 seed Orange take on No. 2 seed Maryland at 2:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. ESPN2 has the broadcast.

The Syracuse-Maryland winner plays No. 1 seed Cornell or No. 5 seed Penn State for the national championship on Monday, May 26, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.

At least one ACC team has advanced to the national semifinals in 50 of the 54 years in which the NCAA Tournament has been contested. 

Following Notre Dame's second straight national championship in 2024, the ACC owns 19 NCAA championships in men's lacrosse. Current ACC membership collectively owns 27 NCAA championships, including 11 of the last 16 and 16 titles since 2000.

Noting ACC Men's Lacrosse
• Syracuse advanced to NCAA Championship Weekend for the first time since 2013 and its first time as a member of the ACC.
• At least one ACC team has advanced to the national semifinals in 50 of the 54 years in which the NCAA Tournament has been contested. 
• The ACC owns 19 NCAA Championships, including four of the last five with Virginia in 2019 and 2021 and Notre Dame in 2023 and 2024.
• The five active ACC teams have combined for 27 national championships, including 11 of the last 16.
• Syracuse owns 10 NCAA titles (most of any NCAA program), while Virginia has won seven, UNC five, Duke three and Notre Dame two.
• A current ACC school has played in the NCAA Championship game in 20 of the last 23 tournaments.
• The ACC now boasts 79 appearances in Championship Weekend, while current membership has combined for 88 appearances. 
• Four ACC teams earned 2025 NCAA Tournament bids, with Syracuse (6), Duke (7) and North Carolina (8) earning seeds and Notre Dame also notching a berth.
• Syracuse won the 2025 ACC Championship on May 4 in Charlotte, downing Duke, 9-8, in the title game. It was SU's third ACC crown (2015, 2016).
• Notre Dame and North Carolina shared the ACC regular-season title, with the Fighting Irish earning the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament by virtue of their 12-6 win over UNC on April 19.
• The five ACC teams were ranked in the final USILA Coaches poll of the regular season, with Syracuse at No. 5, Duke at No. 6, North Carolina at No. 8, Notre Dame at No. 10 and Virginia at No. 19.
• Notre Dame's Chris Kavanagh was named one of five finalists for the 2025 Tewaaraton Award. Eight ACC players were tabbed as nominees for the award. 
• 25 players earned 2025 All-America recognition from Inside Lacrosse – most of any league. Five ACC players claimed First-Team All-America honors: Duke’s Andrew McAdorey and Aidan Maguire, North Carolina’s Brady Wambach, Notre Dame’s Shawn Lyght and Syracuse’s Sam English. 
• 11 ACC student-athletes were chosen in the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League Draft. The 11 ACC players selected were the most of any conference.
• Duke's Andrew McAdorey (No. 2, Redwoods), Syracuse's Sam English (No. 3, Redwoods) and SU's Owen Hiltz (8th, Chaos) each were selected in the first round.
• Three ACC teams rank among the top 20 in scoring offense: Syracuse (6th, 13.9), Notre Dame (8th, 13.8) and North Carolina (16th, 12.8).
• Four teams rank among the top 25 nationally in scoring defense: Notre Dame (6th, 8.8), North Carolina (13th, 9.3), Duke (17th, 9.8) and Syracuse (25th, 10.2).
• Syracuse's Joey Spallina is third nationally in assists per game (3.0) and seventh in points per game (4.94). ND's Chris Kavanagh is ninth nationally in points per game (4.69).
• All five ACC teams are among the top teams nationally in Strength of Schedule (by opponent win pct.): Syracuse (3), Virginia (4), Duke (8), Notre Dame (9) and North Carolina (11).
• Four ACC coaches rank among the top 10 in career wins among active coaches, most of any conference: Duke's John Danowski (first, 484), ND's Kevin Corrigan (third, 370), UNC's Joe Breschi (fifth, 261) and Virginia's Lars Tiffany (ninth, 211). Danowski owns the third-most wins of any D-I head coach all-time.
