CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Nibi Ghosh and Virginia’s Elaine Chervinsky were recognized as 2024-25 ITA Division I Women’s National Award recipients, it was announced on Friday, June 13. Every year, the ITA recognizes coaches and student-athletes for their excellence both on the court and in their communities throughout the season.
Named the 2025 ITA Division I Women’s Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner, Ghosh had a strong senior season in 2024-25, posting a stellar 21-5 singles record overall, including a 12-1 mark in spring play, good for the fourth-best single-season winning percentage in Notre Dame history. The Irish as a team posted the most wins since 2012 (21) and notched the most ACC wins since joining the conference in 2014 (9).
Beyond her athletic achievements, Ghosh has made a lasting impact across campus. She served three years on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), including a term on the executive board, and was a co-lead of Together Irish, driving diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Her community service includes mentoring through the Boys and Girls Club and the Fighting Irish Fight for Life, supporting children with pediatric cancer.
Ghosh, who earlier this week was named the Midwest Region award recipient for the same award, becomes only the second player in program history to earn the national honor (Monica Robinson – 2017).
Chervinsky was named the 2025 ITA Division I Women’s Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award winner. This past fall, she and partner Mélodie Collard made history by winning Virginia’s first NCAA Doubles Championship. The pair also became the first Cavaliers’ tandem to hold the No. 1 doubles ranking, a ranking they held from early February until May. As a doubles team, the pair finished the year with a 31-3 overall record and a 14-2 mark in dual matches. They were named to the All-ACC First Team in doubles.
In singles, Chervinsky had a career year, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship. On the season, Chervinsky led the Cavaliers with a 28-8 singles record and a 12-2 mark in dual matches. After starting the fall ranked No. 74, she finished the year ranked No. 30. She defeated nine ranked opponents on her way to earning All-ACC Second-Team honors in singles.
Chervinsky joins Julia Elbaba (2016) as the only players in program history to take home the honor. Earlier this week, she took home the 2024-25 ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year Award as well as the ITA Atlantic Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award.
The Division I national awards include ITA Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, ITA Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Most Improved Player, ITA Senior Player of the Year, ITA Player to Watch, and the ITA National Player of the Year.
