ACC Announces Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing six standout efforts from five different programs. Clemson led the way with a pair of selections following a strong weekend of competition across the league.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
George Couttie, Virginia Tech, Jr. (Harrogate, England)
  • Broke the collegiate record in the 2,000-meter run, clocking in at 4:57.81.
  • Shattered the previous collegiate record by more than seven seconds, becoming the first collegiate athlete to break five minutes in the event.
  • Leads both the ACC and NCAA in the event this season.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Keyandre Davis, Virginia, Sr. (Big Stone Gap, Virginia)
  • Won the men’s weight throw with a mark of 22.85 meters (74-11.75)
  • His mark ranks sixth nationally and second in the ACC this season.
  • The mark also ranks third in Virginia program history.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Pietro Camilli, California, Fr. (Rome, Italy)
  • Posted a weight throw mark of 19.98 meters (65-5.75) at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • He broke his own freshman school record by more than one foot.
  • Leads all ACC freshmen in the event and ranks seventh nationally among freshmen.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kaelyahh Liburd, Florida State, Jr. (Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands)
  • Broke the Florida State program which had stood for 10 years in the 400-meters, clocking a time of 51.68.
  • Her time is the fastest in the ACC this season and ranks third nationally.
  • She also set the British Virgin Islands indoor national record in the event.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Shantae Foreman, Clemson, Grad. (St. Thomas, Jamaica)
  • Lept a school-record 14.17 meters (46-6) in the triple jump at the Orange & Purple Invitational.
  • Her mark was the second-farthest in ACC history, trailing only Florida State’s Kimberly Williams in 2010.
  • The triple jump mark leads both the ACC and nation this season.
  • Earned her second ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Nancy Cherop, Clemson, Fr. (Mount Elgon, Kenya)
  • In her first-ever race on an indoor track, she ran a 4:32.92 mile at the Purple & Orange Invitational.
  • Her time ranks third in Clemson history for an indoor meet.
  • The mark also ranks ninth nationally this season and fifth in the ACC.
