Season Statistics
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey moves into its second weekend of regular-season action, with six of the seven teams playing two games over the holiday weekend.
The ACC's seven teams are all ranked in the Preseason NFHCA Poll: North Carolina (1), Virginia (6), Syracuse (8), Louisville (9), Wake Forest (12), Boston College (17) and Duke (20).
ACC Network will feature the James Madison-Wake Forest matchup at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Noting ACC Field Hockey
• ACC teams went 10-3 during the first week of regular-season play, including a 5-2 mark against teams from the Big Ten. The weekend success was punctuated by Louisville's 1-0 road win over No. 2 Northwestern on Sunday.
• Six-time reigning ACC champion North Carolina has been chosen as the favorite to win the 2023 ACC Championship following a vote of the league’s seven head coaches. The reigning national champion Tar Heels were picked as the ACC favorite by four coaches, while Virginia was selected by three coaches.
• All seven teams had at least one player selected to the 11-member Preseason All-ACC squad, all of whom were also named to the 2022 All-ACC Team, including five first-team honorees: Margo Carlin (BC), Hannah Miller (Duke), Julie Kouijzer (Louisville), Ryleigh Heck (UNC), Daniela Mendez-Trendler (UVa). Heck was the 2022 ACC Freshman of the Year.
• The ACC boasts a pair of new head coaches this season. Following a brilliant playing career, Erin Matson takes over for NCAA all-time wins leader Karen Shelton at UNC. Lynn Farquhar takes the reins at Syracuse for Ange Bradley, who retired in December after 16 seasons guiding the Orange.
• UNC claimed its 10th NCAA championship with a 2-1 win over defending NCAA champion Northwestern on Nov. 20.
• The ACC’s record number of all-time NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships now stands at 22, including 15 of the last 21.
• UNC’s 10 all-time field hockey championships are the most in NCAA history. All the Tar Heels’ national titles have come under the watch of veteran head coach Karen Shelton, who on Dec. 7 announced her retirement after 42 seasons and an NCAA-record 735 wins at UNC.
• The ACC has placed at least one team in the NCAA title game in 22 of the last 24 NCAA Field Hockey Championships – and 30 times in the last 33 years.
• In the ACC’s first 42 years as an NCAA Division I Field Hockey conference, league teams have accounted for more than half the total appearances in the national title game (43 of 84).
• With Louisville, Syracuse, Virginia and Wake Forest joining UNC in the 2022 NCAA field, the ACC placed multiple teams in postseason play for the 28th consecutive season.
• Four active ACC players are members of the 2023-24 U.S. National Team - Mia Abello (UVa), Charlotte de Vries (Syracuse), Katie Dixon (UNC) and Ryleigh Heck (UNC).
• ACC alums Fusine Govaert (BC), Jillian Wolgemuth (Duke), Ashley Hoffman (UNC), Meredith Sholder (UNC), Cassie Sumfest (UNC) also are members of the 2023-24 U.S. National Team.
• ACC Network (ACCN), the 24/7 national platform dedicated to league sports coverage, is slated to broadcast 15 field hockey games this season, including every contest in the ACC Championship.
