CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference women’s lacrosse season begins this weekend with all 10 programs in action. The featured national matchup of the opening weekend comes at 1 p.m. Sunday as No. 5 Syracuse opens its season on the road against the reigning national champion, No. 1 Northwestern.
In another matchup of top-10 teams, No. 3 North Carolina visits No. 6 James Madison at noon Sunday.
Seven ACC programs are ranked among the top 25 in the preseason IL Women/IWLCA poll: Boston College (2), North Carolina (3), Syracuse (5), Notre Dame (7), Virginia (16), Clemson (23) and Duke (24). That is the most of any league.
Clemson opens its new stadium, Clemson Lacrosse Complex, on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Davidson on ACC Network.

Noting ACC Women's Lacrosse
• The 28th season of ACC women's lacrosse begins this weekend.
• Reigning ACC champion Boston College is the preseason favorite to repeat as ACC champions. The 2023 title was the first in BC history.
• 23 ACC players were named to the Inside Lacrosse Presason All-America Team, including five first teamers: Belle Smith (BC), Emily Nalls (UNC), Kasey Choma and Jackie Wolak (ND) and Delaney Sweitzer (SU).
• On IL Women's Class of 2023 listing, ACC teams boast the top five rated freshmen and eight of the top 10: No. 1 Chloe Humphrey (UNC), No. 2 Natalie Shurtleff (Clemson), No. 3 Lydia Colasante (BC), No. 4 Betty Nelson (UNC), No. 5 Alexa Vogelman (Syracuse), No. 7 Bella Goodwin (Duke), No. 9 Kylee Colbert (BC) and No. 10 Lacey Downey (BC).
• ACC teams will play a nine-game conference schedule again this season.
• 25 ACC women's lacrosse games are slated for linear television, including 20 on ACC Network and five on ESPNU. All nine games of the ACC Championship will air on ACC Network.
• With Boston College reaching the championship game in 2023, at least one ACC team has played in the national title game in 13 of the last 14 seasons.
• With Boston College and Syracuse, the ACC had at least two teams competing in the NCAA's Championship Weekend for the 18th time in league history, including the fifth straight.
• The ACC has had at least one team in the national semis in 33 straight tournaments and the 37 times overall. ACC teams have made 30 championship game appearances and 55 national semifinal appearances.
• Five ACC teams earned NCAA Tournament bids, tied for the most of any conference (BC, UNC, ND, Syracuse, UVA).
• Boston College won its first ACC Championship, rallying to defeat six-time reigning champion North Carolina, 11-9, on April 30 in Charlotte.
• Boston College and Syracuse shared the ACC regular-season title. BC earned its first regular-season crown since winning back to back in 2018 and 2019, while Syracuse's was its first since 2014.
• Five ACC head coaches rank among the top 25 active Division I head coaches in wins: UNC's Jenny Levy (2nd, 411), Duke's Kerstin Kimel (6th, 340), ND's Christine Halfpenny (21st, 180), UL's Scott Teeter (22nd, 178) and BC's Acacia Walker-Weinstein (24th, 173).
