2025 NCAA Tournament Bracket
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina capped off an undefeated 2025 season with a 12-8 victory over No. 3 seed Northwestern on Sunday, May 25, in the title game of the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The top-seeded Tar Heels (22-0) earned the fourth national championship in program history (2013, 2016, 2022). The game was played in front of a championship-game record 14,423 fans.
ACC programs have won 19 national championships since the NCAA Tournament began in 1983, including four of the last five. Since the league began sponsoring women's lacrosse in 1997, ACC teams have now won 14 national championships, with 53 national semifinal appearances and 29 championship game appearances. At least one ACC team has played in the national title game in 15 of the last 16 seasons.
North Carolina women’s lacrosse is the ACC's fifth team national champion this season. The ACC also has brought home titles in women’s soccer (North Carolina), women's swimming & diving (Virginia), fencing (Notre Dame) and men’s tennis (Wake Forest).
UNC redshirt freshman Chloe Humphrey was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. She scored four goals and added an assist in the win Sunday and totaled 11 goals in two games during Championship Weekend. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Sam Forrest, Ashley Humphrey, Betty Nelson and Eliza Osburn.
Eliza Osburn and Olivia Vergano each scored two goals for the Tar Heels. Ashley Humphrey recorded four assists and finished the season with an NCAA single-season record 90 assists.
Goalkeeper Betty Nelson recorded eight saves. The Tar Heels also had a big day at the draw, winning 17 of 24 draw controls.
UNC led 5-2 after a low-scoring first half and after Northwestern (19-3) scored the first goal of the second half, the Tar Heels scored five of the next six goals while limiting the Wildcats to just one goal over nearly 19 minutes of game time to extend their lead to 10-4 with 7:45 left in the game. Northwestern got no closer than four goals the rest of the way.
