This Week in ACC Rowing - Spring Season Begins This Weekend

Preseason Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll (March 6)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference spring rowing slate begins Friday when five ACC teams will compete at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Louisville, at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue.

This year’s Invitational will feature 10 teams, including five from the ACC. Duke, which returns to Oak Ridge this season, shined on Sunday in last season’s regatta, taking wins in the V8, 2V8, V4 and 2V4.

Following the spring season, this year’s ACC Championship will be at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, North Carolina, for the second straight season. On Feb. 8, the ACC announced the ACC Rowing Championship will be held in Raleigh in the 2024, 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2030.

ACC Notes
  • Three ACC teams landed in the Preseason Pocock Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Coaches Poll, as Virginia was positioned at No. 10, Syracuse is No. 11 and Duke is No. 13. Notre Dame is currently receiving votes.
     
  • Four ACC standouts were named to the 2024 Inaugural CRCA Athletes to Watch List. The list included: Kamile Kralikaite (Syracuse), Emmie Frederico (Syracuse), Natalie Hoefer (Notre Dame) and Kate Kelly (Virginia).
     
  • The 2024 Preseason Pocock Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll was announced on Wednesday, as three ACC teams will open the spring season in the top 25. Virginia claimed the lone top 10 spot at No. 10, while Syracuse was slotted 11th and Duke was ranked 13th.
     
  • On Feb. 15, the ACC announced its first-ever Rowing Watch List consisting of one student-athlete from each program, nominated by their respective schools. The list included: Lauren Meath (Boston College, Caroline Emerson (Clemson), Katie Nash (Duke), Claire Carver-Ritter (Louisville), Constance Stirling (Miami), Natalie Timinskas (North Carolina), Natalie Hoefer (Notre Dame), Kamile Kralikaite (Syracuse) and Lauren Benedict (Virginia).
     
  • Virginia junior Sky Dahl will compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, USRowing announced on January 17. Dahl is part of the United States’ PR3 mixed four with coxswain that was chosen through a selection camp process. The PR3 mixed four with coxswain along with the PR3 mixed double sculls are the first two crews – Olympic or Paralympic – to be selected for the Paris 2024 Games.
     
  • Last season, Virginia claimed its 22nd overall title in the regatta’s 23-year history at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Cavaliers, who captured four of the five Grand Finals, finished with 95 points, ahead of Syracuse (86) and Duke (83). Cuse’s Varsity Eight earned the program’s first ACC Crew of the Year award since 2017. Following the ACC Championship, three teams were selected to the NCAA Rowing Championship where UVA (10th), Syracuse (13th) and Duke (14th) all earned top-15 finishes.
     
  • The ACC Rowing Championship returns to Lake Wheeler in 2024, as the two-day event begins May 17.
