CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the fifth consecutive week, six field hockey teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference are ranked in the NFHCA Coaches’ Poll, headlined by No. 2 North Carolina.
Third-ranked Virginia opened the ACC slate on Tuesday, October 14, with a 1-0 non-conference victory over No. 7 Liberty. The Cavaliers will return to action on Sunday, October 19, when they travel to William & Mary for a 1 p.m. ET matchup.
The action on Friday, October 17, will be highlighted by No. 2 North Carolina’s trip to Syracuse, New York, to face the ninth-ranked Orange. The top-10 showdown will begin at 3 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ACCNX.
After going 2-0 last weekend, California jumped into the NFHCA Coaches Poll at No. 19. The Golden Bears will head east to play Louisville on Friday evening and No. 5 Wake Forest on Sunday. The ranked clash between the Demon Deacons and Golden Bears is slated for noon ET and will air on ACCNX. Cal goalkeeper Delphine Ayitey-Hammond was named the honorable mention for NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week after making 13 saves in the Golden Bears’ two wins.
Noting ACC Field Hockey
- For the fifth consecutive week, six teams from the ACC are ranked in the NFHCA Coaches’ Poll. The ACC’s six ranked teams are tied for the most nationally.
- Five of the top 10 teams in the RPI hail from the ACC, including 2 of the top 3.
- ACC teams have combined to win 15 non-conference games against ranked opponents.
- The ACC also boasts the top-rated non-conference RPI in the country.
- There will be three ranked contests in ACC play this week, including Virginia’s win over No. 7 Liberty on Tuesday, October 14.
- Wake Forest sits atop the ACC standings with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play.
