Virginia Sweeps ACC Field Hockey Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia midfielder Emma Watchilla was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for field hockey, while Cavaliers’ midfielder Madison Orsi was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played between September 29-October 5.
 
Emma Watchilla, Jr., Forward, Virginia (Kingston, Pa.)
  • Scored the game-winning goal in Virginia’s 1-0 double-overtime win over No. 9 Duke.
  • Logged three shots on goal, landing the final one in the back of the net.
  • The goal was her first game-winning goal of the season.
  • Helped the Cavaliers remain undefeated on the season, going 9-0 overall and 5-0 in ACC play.
 
Madison Orsi, Sr., Midfield, Virginia (Downington, Pa.)
  • Led the Cavaliers to their fifth shutout of the season and fourth shutout of a ranked opponent.
  • Anchored the backline to aid goalkeeper Nilou Lempers in the shutout win.
  • The Cavaliers’ defense only allowed two shots on goal.
 
Noting ACC Field Hockey
  • Wake Forest and Virginia remain undefeated in ACC play through three weeks.
  • Six teams are represented in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches’ Poll, including five teams ranked in the top 10.
  • The ACC’s six ranked teams are the most of any conference.
  • Entering Week 6 of the field hockey season, five of the top 10 teams in the RPI rankings hail from the ACC, led by No. 1 North Carolina and No. 2 Virginia.
  • As a league, the ACC boasts the top overall and non-conference RPI.
