CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – After Atlantic Coast Conference teams posted 21 wins against non-conference opponents last week, the action on the pitch continues this week with 29 matchups on the docket, beginning Thursday, August 21.
The week opens with a new No. 1 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, as Duke climbed to the top spot following its home win over No. 11 Penn State last Thursday, August 14. The victory marked the first under new head coach Kieran Hall, who succeeded longtime head coach Robbie Church. Stanford also earned a ranked win last week, knocking off No. 16 Santa Clara, 5-1.
Eight ACC teams remain in the United Soccer Poll this week, with the league holding the top three spots. Following the Blue Devils at No. 1 is Stanford at No. 2 and Florida State at No. 3. Notre Dame (No. 7) and Wake Forest (No. 10) also rank in the top 10, while North Carolina (No. 12), Virginia Tech (No. 15) and Virginia (No. 17) round out the ACC contingent. Clemson is currently receiving votes.
Noting ACC Women’s Soccer
• As the 39th season of ACC Women’s Soccer got underway last week, ACC teams earned 22 victories on opening weekend, tying the Big Ten for the most in the country.
• Excluding non-conference matches between ACC teams, the league’s .783 winning percentage is the best in the nation.
• ACC teams posted a 6-2-2 record against Power Four conference opponents.
• With Duke’s win over No. 11 Penn State and Stanford’s victory over No. 16 Santa Clara, ACC teams finished 2-1-2 against nationally-ranked opponents last week.
• Duke junior forward Mia Minestrella has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Stanford senior defender Elise Evans and Wake Forest redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Valentina Amaral were selected as the ACC Co-Defensive Players of the Week for matches played during the opening week of the regular season.
• A nation-best eight teams are ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, including the top three spots: Duke (1), Stanford (2), Florida State (3), Notre Dame (7), Wake Forest (10), North Carolina (12), Virginia Tech (15) and Virginia (17). Clemson is currently receiving votes.
• In the last 23 weeks of the United Soccer Poll, dating back to 2023, an ACC team has been ranked first in all but two polls.
• The 2025 Preseason ACC Coaches Poll and All-ACC Team was announced on Thursday, August 7, as North Carolina was selected as the conference favorite.
• A total of 14 players were named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, including 2024 first-team selections Cameron Roller (Duke), Jordynn Dudley (Florida State), Kate Faasse (North Carolina), Izzy Engle (Notre Dame) and Leah Klenke (Notre Dame).
• North Carolina claimed its 23rd national championship with a 1-0 victory over Wake Forest in the final of the 2024 Women's College Cup. The title was UNC's 22nd NCAA championship after winning the AIWA National Championship in 1981.
