CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – With four ranked matchups on the schedule beginning on Thursday, September 3, Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer returns for a key week of non-conference action.
The ACC placed a nation-best eight teams in the weekly United Soccer Coaches Poll for the fourth consecutive week. Stanford became the first team this season to hold the No. 1 ranking for back-to-back weeks, after North Carolina’s preseason No. 1 ranking and Duke’s top spot after the opening week of the regular season. The ACC currently has three teams in the top five and five in the top 10.
ACC Network will feature a pair of matches this week, beginning on Thursday when No. 8 Virginia welcomes No. 9 Penn State to Charlottesville at 6 p.m. ET. On Sunday, September 7, No. 3 Duke hosts Alabama for 1:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Other ranked matchups include top-ranked Stanford visiting No. 6 USC on Thursday at 10 p.m. ET and traveling to No. 18 UCLA on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET. Clemson, which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, will host No. 15 Georgia on Sunday at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
Noting ACC Women’s Soccer
• ACC teams have recorded 58 non-conference wins this season, tied for the most among all conferences.
• ACC programs own an 11-8-4 (.565) record against Power Four opponents and are 3-1-4 (.625) against ranked teams.
• Duke senior midfielder Devin Lynch and Notre Dame senior midfielder Laney Matriano have been named the ACC Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Blue Devil junior defender Cameron Roller was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played between August 25-31.
• A nation-best eight teams are ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, including Stanford holding the top spot. Following the Cardinal is Duke (No. 3), Notre Dame (No. 5), Florida State (No. 7), Virginia (No. 8), Wake Forest (No. 17), Virginia Tech (No. 20) and North Carolina (No. 23). Clemson is currently receiving votes.
• In the last 25 weeks of the United Soccer Coaches Poll, dating back to 2023, an ACC team has been ranked No. 1 in all but two polls.
• The 2025 Preseason ACC Coaches Poll and All-ACC Team were announced on Thursday, August 7, as North Carolina was selected as the conference favorite.
• A total of 14 players were named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, including 2024 first-team selections Cameron Roller (Duke), Jordynn Dudley (Florida State), Kate Faasse (North Carolina), Izzy Engle (Notre Dame) and Leah Klenke (Notre Dame).
• North Carolina claimed its 23rd national championship with a 1-0 victory over Wake Forest in the final of the 2024 Women's College Cup. The title was UNC's 22nd NCAA championship after winning the AIWA National Championship in 1981.
• The title was the ACC's 26th women's soccer national championship. Current membership has combined to win 32 national championships (North Carolina - 22, Florida State - 4, Stanford - 3, Notre Dame - 3). No school outside the ACC has won more than two national titles.
• For the first time in Women's College Cup history, the ACC sent all four teams to the national semifinals, as Duke, North Carolina, Stanford and Wake Forest all advanced. It marks the first time a conference has sent four teams to the Women's College Cup.
