CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - The 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball season continues this week over a six-day stretch, beginning with the inaugural “Showdown at the Net”, slated for September 9-10.
The “Showdown at the Net” will feature 16 of the 18 ACC Volleyball programs going head-to-head with 16 SEC programs. ESPN will host one neutral site event on Wednesday, September 10, featuring two teams from each conference while all other matches will take place on ACC or SEC campuses. All matches will be aired on ESPN, ACCN and SECN linear networks and ACCNX and SECN+ digital platforms.
The neutral site event, named the Shriners Children’s Showdown at the Net, is a four-team showcase that will take place on Wednesday, September 10, featuring No. 7 Pitt versus No. 3 Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. ET and No. 4 Louisville versus No. 2 Texas at 9 p.m. ET at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN.
The ACC will feature six ranked top 25 matchups this week, headlined by five in the Showdown at the Net. On Tuesday, No. 25 North Carolina will host No. 11 Florida at 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network while No. 10 SMU hosts No. 8 Texas A&M at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. No. 6 Stanford will also travel to No. 23 Missouri at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Noting ACC Volleyball
- In the most recent AVCA/Taraflex Poll, Louisville led the ACC in the No. 4 spot with Stanford (No. 5), Pitt (No. 7), SMU (No. 10), Georgia Tech (No. 21) and North Carolina (No. 25) filling out the rest of the top 25. The ACC has the most teams on any conference in the Top 10.
- SMU’s Malaya Jones was named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week on Tuesday, September 2.
- Pitt was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2025 ACC Volleyball Championship for the second straight year by the league’s volleyball head coaches.
- Seven ACC standouts were named to the AVCA Division I Player of the Year Watch List. The list included Chloe Chicoine (Louisville), Cara Cresse (Louisville), Flormarie Heredia Colon (Miami), Olivia Babcock (Pitt), Bre Kelley (Pitt), Malaya Jones (SMU) and Elia Rubin (Stanford).
- Florida State’s Chris Poole ranks first among active NCAA Division I coaches with 942 victories in 39 seasons. Duke’s Jolene Nagel ranks fifth on that list with 714 career wins.
- Louisville’s Dan Meske, NC State’s Megan Wargo-Kearney and Wake Forest’s Jeff Hulsmeyer are all in their first year as head coach of their programs.
