CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing five top performers from four different programs. NC State’s Sadie Engelhardt earned both ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honors to highlight the group.
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Colton Sands, North Carolina, Grad. (Spring Mills, Pennsylvania)
- Clocked the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history in the 3,000-meter, finishing in 7:34.05.
- His mark leads all ACC runners and ranks second nationally in the event.
- The mark stands as the third-fastest time in North Carolina history.
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Kennedy Sauder, Miami, Sr. (Lauderhill, Florida)
- Broke his own school record in the high jump with a clearance of 2.22 meters.
- The mark of 2.22 meters ranks fourth nationally.
- The mark also leads the ACC this season.
ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Elsingi Kipruto, Louisville, Fr. (Mosoriot, Kenya)
- Clocked a 5000-meter time of 13:15.74 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, finishing as the runner-up.
- His time currently ranks sixth nationally and second in the ACC.
- Broke his previous school record, set earlier this season, by nearly 15 seconds.
- Earned his third ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honor.
ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete & Freshman of the Week
Sadie Engelhardt, NC State, Fr. (Ventura, Calif.)
- Broke both the ACC and NC State records in the women’s mile, clocking a time of 4:23.84.
- Her time ranks fifth in the nation this season and sixth in NCAA history.
- Blew past her previous top time by nearly four seconds.
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ashley Callahan, Louisville, R-Sr. (San Diego, California)
- Cleared a school record 4.50 meters in the pole vault at the Don Kirby Invitational.
- Her mark ranks sixth nationally and is tied for the ACC lead with teammate Iliana Triantafyllou.
- Posted a clean sheet through her first four attempts on her way to breaking the program record.
