Conference Records Highlight ACC Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing seven standout efforts from three different programs. Clemson and Louisville led the way with a trio of selections each following a strong weekend of competition across the league.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Brian Kweyei, Clemson, Jr. (Kitale, Rift Valley, Kenya)
  • Won the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston with an 800-meter time of 1:46.02, breaking the Clemson program record.
  • Clocked the second-fastest time in ACC history and the fastest since 1989.
  • He is now tied for No. 17 on the NCAA all-time list for the 800-meter.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
KJ Byrd, Louisville, So. (Connelly Springs, North Carolina)
  • Broke a pair of program records in the heptathlon and pole vault at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
  • Also set an NCAA heptathlon record in the pole vault with his mark of 5.47 meters (17-11.25).
  • Totaled 6,161 points in the heptathlon, shattering meet and program records.
  • Leads the nation in pole vault, while ranking second nationally in heptathlon.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Elsingi Kipruto, Louisville, Fr. (Mosoriot, Kenya)
  • Won the 3000-meter run at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational with a time of 7:49.54.
  • Shattered the previous school record by 10 seconds, while also setting a meet record.
  • Ranks 21st nationally this season and fourth-overall in the ACC.
  • Earned his second ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honor of the season.
 
ACC Co-Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Gladys Chepngeitch, Clemson, Jr. (Eldoret, Kenya)
  • Broke the ACC 800-meter record at the John Thomas Terrier Classic with a time of 1:58.81.
  • Also shattered the Clemson program record.
  • Currently holds the fastest time in the nation in the event.
  • Ranks second in NCAA all-time list for the 800-meter.
  • Garnered her second weekly ACC honor of the season, previously being named the ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on January 13.
 
ACC Co-Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Shenese Walker, Florida State, Sr. (Saint Thomas, Jamaica)
  • Broke the ACC record in the 60-meter dash at the Razorback Invitational, competing against six ranked teams.
  • Clocked her ACC and Florida State record time of 7.09 in the semifinals of the event.
  • Holds the NCAA-leading mark and the fifth-fastest mark in the world in 2026.
  • Earned her second ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor of the season.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Iliana Triantafyllou, Louisville, R-So. (Serres, Greece)
  • Won the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational pole vault with a mark of 4.47 meters (14-8).
  • The mark ranks eighth nationally and second in the ACC.
  • Her mark also ranks second in program history.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Nancy Cherop, Clemson, Fr. (Mount Elgon, Kenya)
  • Finished sixth in the 3,000-meter at the John Thomas Terrier Classic with a time of 8:51.10.
  • Shattered the previous Clemson record by 24 seconds in the event.
  • She ranks 11th overall nationally in the event and leads all ACC freshmen.
  • Earned her second consecutive ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honor.
