CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – A total of 12 ACC Indoor Track & Field teams will be competing this weekend, beginning on Friday, February 6, through Sunday, February 8.
Virginia Tech will host the annual Doc Hale Elite with Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia each heading to Blacksburg, Virginia. The two-day event will begin with the men’s heptathlon at 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday.
Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest will each compete in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the JDL Camel City Sprints and Distance Meets. The sprints meet will take place on Friday, while the distance events will occur on Saturday, February 7, at the JDL Fast Track.
Louisville will split its squad across three meets this weekend, traveling to Chicago, Illinois, and Indianapolis, Indiana, in addition to the Eastern Indoors meet in Louisville, Kentucky. The Cardinals will be the lone ACC team competing in the Eastern Indoors. In Indianapolis, Notre Dame will join the Cardinals at the Fairgrounds Invitational. In addition to the Fairgrounds Invitational, Notre Dame will also have athletes competing at the Woo Pig Classic in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In Chicago, Louisville will also compete against North Carolina, with the meet streaming on RunnerSpace.
California and Stanford will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, with the two-day event streaming live on FloTrack.
SMU will compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station, Texas, while Pitt will participate in the Penn Classic.
Noting ACC Indoor Track & Field
- Virginia Tech’s George Couttie broke the collegiate record in the men’s 2000-meter run by seven seconds, clocking in at 4:57.81.
- Clemson’s Gladys Chepngetich broke the ACC record in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.81. Her mark is also the second-fastest in collegiate history.
- Florida State’s Shenese Walker broke the ACC record in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.09 seconds at the Razorback Invitational. Her time leads the nation and is the fifth-fastest in the world this year.
- Virginia’s Gary Martin broke the ACC record in the men’s 5,000-meter run in his season-opening performance. His time of 13:05.57 is the sixth-fastest in NCAA history.
- Five ACC women’s teams are ranked in the Top 25 of the USTFCCCA Track & Field Ratings Index – No. 5 Clemson, No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 11 Florida State, No. 20 Stanford and No. 25 Miami.
