Virginia Tech Downs Louisville, 4-2, in First Round of the 2026 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship

CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – No. 17 seed Virginia Tech battled past No. 16 seed Louisville, 4-2, on Tuesday to advance to the second round of the 2026 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship at Cary Tennis Park.
 
With the match tight throughout singles play, Arina Gamretkaia clinched the victory for the Hokies in dramatic fashion, defeating Germany Davis in back-to-back tiebreaks, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6), on court two.
 
Virginia Tech (5-16, 1-11 ACC) claimed the early edge by securing the doubles point. After Louisville’s Alice Otis and Lika Persypkina opened with a 6-3 win at No. 2, the Hokies answered with a 6-2 victory from Ozlem Uslu and Gamretkaia on court No. 1. Elizaveta Castillo and Alston Myatt sealed the point with a marathon 7-6 (11) win at No. 3.
 
The Hokies extended their lead to 2-0 as Linda Ziets-Segura posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles. Louisville (10-12, 1-11 ACC) responded with a straight-set victory from Elena Noguero at No. 3, but Uslu pushed Virginia Tech ahead 3-1 with a comeback win over Otis, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, on court No. 1.
 
The Cardinals stayed within striking distance as Berta Miret rallied past Myatt in three sets at No. 5, setting the stage for Gamretkaia’s clincher.
 
The match at No. 4 went unfinished.
 
Virginia Tech advances to face No. 9 Stanford on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Louisville’s season comes to a close.
