PANAMA CITY, Fla. (theACC.com) – With a two-hole playoff victory, California sophomore Ziqin Zhou earned medalist honors at the 2026 ACC Men’s Golf Championship Saturday at Shark’s Tooth Golf Course at Watersound Club.
Zhou, Stanford’s Edan Cui and Duke’s Ethan Evans tied for first in the individual standings, forcing a playoff to determine medalist honors. Playing the par-4 18th, Zhou and Cui birdied while Evans made par, eliminating Evans. Zhou and Cui advanced to the par-5 17th, where Zhou secured the individual title with a par. The sophomore becomes the first California player to win medalist honors at the ACC Men’s Golf Championship and the second straight sophomore to win after Notre Dame’s Jacob Modelski won last season.
On the team side, Stanford led stroke play wire-to-wire, finishing 20-under-par (844) and earning the top seed in Sunday’s match play quarterfinals. The Cardinal finished 16 shots ahead of second-place Virginia, which finished at 4-under-par (860). North Carolina and Georgia Tech tied for third place at 2-under-par, with the Tar Heels winning the tiebreaker due to the better non-qualifying score.
Florida State earned the No. 5 seed, finishing 1-under-par and will face the Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Clemson, which finished 1-over-par, will face North Carolina in the quarterfinals. Louisville (+2) finished seventh and will face Virginia.
Duke and Wake Forest finished tied for eighth at 3-over-par, as the teams went to a playoff to determine the final spot in match play. Duke won three of the five playoff holes to secure the No. 8 seed and will face Stanford in the quarterfinals.
The match play quarterfinals begin Sunday, April 26, at 8:30 a.m. ET, followed by the semifinals scheduled for approximately 2 p.m. ET. The semifinals and Monday’s match play final will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
