This Weekend in ACC Baseball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – With two weekends remaining in the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball regular season, the race for the ACC regular-season title and seeding at the 2026 ACC Baseball Championship is heating up.

The ACC’s penultimate weekend slate opens with Louisville traveling to Coral Gables, Florida, for a three-game series with Miami beginning on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. ET. The Hurricanes boast 13 wins in conference play and enter the weekend still in contention for the ACC regular-season title.

With the potential to clinch the ACC regular-season championship this weekend, No. 3 Georgia Tech will host Duke for a three-game series, beginning on Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m. ET.  The Yellow Jackets need to gain two games on second-place North Carolina to earn the regular-season title this weekend.

The second-ranked Tar Heels will host Pitt for a three-game set, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. ET.  While the Tar Heels remain in the fight for the ACC regular-season title, the Panthers are hunting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

California heads to Charlottesville, Virginia, for three games against the Cavaliers. Virginia is ranked No. 23 in the most recent D1Baseball Top 25 and is a projected No. 2 seed for the NCAA Tournament.

While Cal heads east, NC State will head west to meet Stanford in Palo Alto, California, beginning Friday at 9 p.m. ET. NC State, which looks to secure its place in the 2026 NCAA Tournament field, looks to build on its series win against Miami. The Cardinal, however, look for a strong response after dropping three games on the road to Notre Dame.

Clemson welcomes No. 14 Florida State to Doug Kingsmore Stadium for a three-game set, beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Friday. The Tigers begin the weekend on a three-game winning streak, all of which have come against ranked opponents, while the Seminoles are riding a five-game winning streak.

In non-conference action, Wake Forest will welcome in-state foe Western Carolina for three games, while Notre Dame will host Oakland for a three-game series. The Demon Deacons have posted their fifth straight season in which they’ve won at least 30 games, while Notre Dame’s five-game winning streak is tied for the longest streak in the conference. No. 22 Boston College will host NJIT for two games, beginning Saturday, May 9, at 5 p.m. ET, while Virginia Tech welcomes UNCG for a pair of contests beginning at 4 p.m. ET Saturday.

Around the Horn
  • Clemson enters the weekend on a three-game winning streak with all three wins coming against ranked opponents. The Tigers knocked off No. 20 Boston College to take the series before beating No. 8 Coastal Carolina on the road Tuesday.
  • Clemson sits at No. 37 in both the RPI and Diamond Sports Rankings (DSR) with ACC series against No. 14 Florida State and at Virginia Tech remaining. The Tigers are 21-4 in non-conference play and boast 11 wins against Quad 1 (7) and Quad 2 (4) teams.
  • With 17 ACC wins, Boston College has broken it program record for victories in ACC play. The Eagles enter the week No. 25 in the RPI, with eight wins over top-25 RPI opponents.
  • The ACC accounts for nearly 30 percent of the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, with 13 student-athletes named to the 50-player list.
  • As award season ramps up, the ACC is once again well represented in national honors. Seven pitchers were named semifinalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year Award, six shortstops were tabbed semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award and five pitchers were named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List.
  • Five ACC teams are ranked in the latest D1Baseball Top 25: No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 14 Florida State, No. 22 Boston College and No. 23 Virginia.
  • Louisville’s Tague Davis has swatted 30 home runs this season, including 16 in ACC play. The sophomore is one home run away from tying the ACC single-season home run record of 31, held by Florida State’s J.D. Drew (1997) and Wake Forest’s Brock Wilken (2023).
  • Louisville outfielder Lucas Moore has 102 career stolen bases and ranks sixth in ACC history. His 102 steals are the most by an ACC player since NC State’s Trea Turner (113, 2012-14).
  • Entering the weekend, Georgia Tech’s Drew Burress and Miami’s Daniel Cuvet have each hit 54 career home runs, tying them for 17th in ACC history.
  • In D1Baseball and Baseball America’s latest Projected Field of 64, nine teams from the ACC are expected to make the NCAA Tournament. The ACC’s nine teams would rank second nationally and would mark the seventh straight season with at least eight ACC teams making the postseason field.
