Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Four student-athletes who each rank among the nation’s top 10 in their respective events have been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor  Track and Field Performers of the Week for January 23.
 
A glance at this week’s honorees:
 
ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Alfred Shirley III, So., Virginia
Shirley was part of two Corps Facility Training Facility record-setting efforts as the Cavaliers competed in last weekend’s Keydet Invitational at VMI. After posting a time of 1:02.57 in the 500-meter dash that was the fastest nationally in all competition held last weekend, the Chesapeake, Virginia, sophomore followed up by running a 48.61 second leg on the Cavaliers’ Distance Medley Relay team that posted a time of 9:59.30 that ranks fourth nationally and leads the ACC in addition establishing another facility record.
 
ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Dominique Clairmonte, So., NC State
Clairmonte’s mile time of 4:38.55 at the Hokie Invite hosted by Virginia Tech placed first among a field of 28 runners, leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally. The Lexington, Ohio, native, who edged teammate Elly Henes by .20 of a second in last weekend’s race, also posted the second-fastest mile time in NC State women’s history.

ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Daniel McArthur, So., North Carolina
McArthur’s throw of 64-10.5 (19.77m) in the shot put at last weekend’s Gamecock Inaugural broke a 14-year-old UNC school record previously set by four-time Olympian Vikas Gowda. The Mooresville, North Carolina, native’s throw currently ranks sixth in the nation and stands as the top mark in the ACC by nearly five feet (1.50m).
 
ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Rachel Baxter, So., Virginia Tech
Baxter set a personal best in the pole vault with her mark of 14-2.75 (4.34m) at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invite. The Orange, California, native is tied for fourth nationally and leads the ACC. Baxter’s mark was also the best by any collegiate vaulter during competition held last weekend.
