ACC Announces Women’s Soccer Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Florida State sophomore forward Beata Olsson and Virginia Tech senior midfielder Emily Gray have been named ACC Women’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Miami junior goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais and North Carolina sophomore defender Avery Patterson have been tabbed ACC Co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Olsson scored a pair of goals in Florida State’s 4-1 win at Clemson on Friday. With FSU leading 2-1 at halftime, Olsson scored two goals in a minute and four seconds in the 63rd and 65th minutes to lead the Seminoles to a 4-1 win and an 11-0 record. The Enkoping, Sweden, native leads the team in goals scored (8) and points (17). The Seminoles won their 14th consecutive ACC game, 10th straight road game and 21st straight regular-season game. Additionally, the win marked head coach Mark Krikorian’s 300th win at Florida State.

Gray netted both Virginia Tech goals in a 2-1 victory for the 19th-ranked Hokies at Pitt on Saturday. She opened the scoring in the contest with a goal in 15th minute and added the game-winner in the 83rd minute. Hailing from Sewell, New Jersey, Gray recorded her sixth career multi-goal game, moving into sole possession of second place all-time at Virginia Tech. She also took over the conference lead in points with 22 on the year and moved into a tie for second place among ACC goal-scorers (9).

Dagenais was stellar in goal for the Hurricanes to help the squad earn a 1-0 victory at Boston College, its first ACC shutout since Oct. 25, 2018. She recorded a season-high eight saves in Miami’s first-ever road win against the Eagles and its fourth win in the all-time series. It was the Saint-Hubert, Quebec, native’s fourth clean sheet of the season. Dagenais is now third in the league in saves with 47 this season. Her free kick with 13 seconds remaining in the contest set up the Hurricanes' game-winning goal in the final second of regulation.

Patterson’s play on the back line helped the fifth-ranked Tar Heels earn a scoreless draw against second-ranked Virginia on Sunday. The sophomore controlled the UNC defensive effort that limited the Cavaliers to just two shots on goal in 110 minutes of play. It was the first time the high-powered Virginia offense was shut out this season. She also made numerous offensive attacks and crosses that helped North Carolina tally 20 shots.

Conference play continues this week for ACC women’s soccer, headlined by a Thursday night ACC Network and RSN doubleheader. No. 4 Duke welcomes NC State at 6 p.m. and No. 19 Virginia Tech travels to Clemson at 8 p.m. on ACC Network. Wake Forest hosts Miami at 5 p.m. and Louisville makes the trip to Notre Dame for an 8 p.m. kickoff on RSN.
