GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame sophomore midfielder Korbin Albert and North Carolina redshirt-freshman forward Ally Sentnor have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Fighting Irish graduate student goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Albert scored three goals last week in a pair of Notre Dame’s road conference victories. The Grayslake, Illinois native struck early in the seventh minute last Thursday, as her first-half goal was the lone tally in the Irish’s victory at Virginia Tech. On Sunday, she posted a goal in each half of a 3-0 win at Wake Forest. After she converted a penalty kick in the 29th minute, the midfielder added an insurance goal in the 67th minute to put the match out of reach.
Sentnor scored the game-winning goal in each of North Carolina’s two road conference wins last week. The Hanson, Massachusetts native provided the second-half game-winning goal in North Carolina’s key 2-1 road victory at No. 4 Florida State last Thursday. She then scored the match’s opening goal in a 4-0 victory at Miami on Sunday. The Tar Heels are now 4-1 this season when Sentnor scores a goal.
Wood recorded a pair of conference clean sheets last week, as her .909 save percentage against league competition continues to lead the ACC. In a road win at Virginia Tech on Thursday, the Granger, Indiana native made five saves, including four in the first half, to preserve the shutout. On Sunday at Wake Forest, the goalkeeper made three stops for her ninth clean sheet of the season.
The regular season ends on Thursday with seven pivotal matchups, as the ACC Women’s Soccer Championship bracket is set to be unveiled Thursday night. Three teams remain atop the conference standings, as Notre Dame, North Carolina and Florida State are all tied with 21 points each. The ACC Network doubleheader begins at 6 p.m. with the Tar Heels heading to Louisville followed by a key matchup featuring Duke and the Fighting Irish at 8 p.m.
Six teams will qualify for this year’s ACC Championship. The first round is set for Oct. 30 with the No. 1 and 2 seeded teams earning byes, while the No. 3 seeded team plays host to No. 6, and the No. 4 team plays host to No. 5. The winners will then advance to Cary, North Carolina, for the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 3, followed by the title match on Nov. 6.
