CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (theACC.com) – Duke, Louisville and Virginia earned wins Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 2023 ACC Field Hockey Championship at the University of Virginia’s Turf Field in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Virginia advanced to face top-seeded North Carolina, the six-time reigning league champion, at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Duke and Louisville will face off at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. ACC Network will televise both games, as well as the championship game at 7 p.m. Friday.

No. 4 Virginia 3, No. 5 Syracuse 2
Virginia (12-5) staged a dramatic fourth-quarter rally, scoring three goals in the final stanza to claim a 3-2 win over Syracuse (10-7). Lilly Hengerer scored 29 seconds into the quarter to get the Cavaliers started. UVa pulled its goalkeeper with 4:24 remaining, and the move paid off when Laura Janssen scored off a corner with 2:40 left in regulation. The Cavaliers scored the eventual game-winner 50 seconds later when Noa Boterman cashed in off a corner.

Syracuse led for most of the game, jumping to a lead just 1:39 into the contest on Willemijn Boogert’s diving goal. Eefke van den Nieuwenhof tacked on a goal late in the second quarter, but that proved to be the Orange’s final shot of the game. UVa out-shot Syracuse 7-0 in the second half.

No. 2 Duke 2, No. 7 Wake Forest 0
Duke (15-3) rolled into the semifinals with an impressive performance against Wake Forest (8-9), limiting the Demon Deacons to just four shots in a 2-0 victory.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a lead midway through the first quarter on a Josephine Palde goal and padded their lead early in the second quarter when Charlie van Oirschot found the back of the cage.

Duke out-shot Wake, 17-4, for the game but Demon Deacons' goalkeeper Ellie Todd racked up 10 saves to help keep the Deacs in the game.

No. 3 Louisville 3, No. 6 Boston College 2
Rylie Wollerton had a hand in all three of Louisville’s goals as the Cardinals (14-5) held on for a 3-2 victory over Boston College (11-7) in the nightcap for Day 1.

Boston College started fast with a goal from Simone Hefting at the 7:27 mark of the first quarter, but Louisville responded 89 seconds later on a Wollerton score. Wollerton scored again, unassisted, just over two minutes into the second quarter to give the Cards a 2-1 advantage.

Tyler Everslage pushed Louisville’s lead to 3-1 with a goal at the 7:52 mark of the third quarter, with Wollerton providing the assist.

BC pulled its goalkeeper with just over nine minutes remaining and made a hard push down the stretch before breaking through with two minutes remaining on a goal by Peyton Hale. But UofL buckled down on defense and did not allow a shot the rest of the way.

BC out-shot Louisville, 17-6, including 12-4 on goal, but Cardinals' goalkeeper Merlijn van der Vegt was tremendous, making 10 saves.
