ACC Announces Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State junior forward/midfielder Taylor Huff was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week and North Carolina freshman defender Savy King was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week in the first set of ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the 2023 season.

Huff was one of only four players in the country to score two game-winning goals last week, as she led the Seminoles to a perfect 2-0 start on the season. In Thursday’s season opener at Texas A&M, Huff found the back of the net in the 86th minute to break a long 1-1 deadlock and handed the visitors an eventual 2-1 victory. On Sunday, the Mansfield, Ohio, native scored the first goal of the night and handed out an assist in FSU’s 2-0 win over No. 9 TCU.

King, a true freshman, started as the Tar Heel center back and became the only rookie to log 180 minutes last week. In Thursday’s opener at No. 10 Penn State, the West Hills, California, native led a backline that held Penn State without a goal for the first time since Oct. 2, 2022. North Carolina held the Nittany Lions to just five shots for the contest with three on frame. In Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Cal, the Tar Heel backline limited the Golden Bears to just two shots in the contest and helped preserve UNC’s first win of the year.

ACC women’s soccer teams closed out the opening weekend with 15 victories and did not see a loss at home. Florida State captured the lone ranked win at No. 9 TCU, while Clemson drew with No. 12 South Carolina and UNC played to a scoreless draw at Penn State.
