CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer season continues Thursday with 11 teams back on the pitch. In 52 matches so far this season, ACC teams have only lost nine matches with three coming against ranked teams.
 
The week is headlined by three ACC teams squaring off against ranked opponents. In the matchups featuring ranked opponents, Miami heads to No. 5 Alabama on Thursday, No. 10 Duke travels to No. 3 Stanford on Saturday and ACC Network features No. 4 North Carolina hosting No. 8 Arkansas on Sunday. Three ACC teams square off with opponents currently receiving votes in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll as Thursday’s matchups see No. 12 Virginia taking on West Virginia and NC State heading to Colorado, while No. 15 Notre Dame visits Michigan State on Sunday.

Noting ACC Women’s Soccer
• The 37th season of ACC Women's Soccer is underway and through the first two weeks of the season, ACC teams combined for a 28-9-15 (.683) record.
• A nation-best seven teams remained in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 released on Tuesday. Florida State continues to lead the way at No. 2 and North Carolina follows at No. 4. Duke is No. 10, Clemson is No. 11 and Virginia rounds out the top 12. Notre Dame landed at No. 15 and Pitt is No. 21.
• Clemson and Virginia are two of only 12 teams nationally that have not allowed a goal this season. The Tigers and Cavaliers enter the week with identical 3-0-1 records with two home matches on tap for this week. Virginia has outscored its opponents 14-0, while Clemson has scored 12 straight to open the year.
• Eight teams are unbeaten on the season with Pitt (4-0) and Florida State (2-0) entering the week without a draw.
• A pair of ACC standouts landed on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, as defenders Makenna Morris (Clemson) and Savannah King (North Carolina) landed on this week's XI.
• TopDrawerSoccer announced its Top 100 upperclassmen list, as a nation-best 25 players from the ACC were represented. Four players were in the top 10, as North Carolina's Sam Meza led the way at No. 3. Florida State's tandem of Lauren Flynn and Jody Brown were No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, while Duke's Leah Freeman was No. 10.
• Tying for the most among all conferences, eight ACC student-athletes were named to the 56-member 2023 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List. Last season, all three finalists for the nation's highest individual honor in women's college soccer hailed from the ACC with Duke's Michelle Cooper becoming the first Blue Devil to win the award.
• North Carolina's Isabel Cox has appeared in 92 career matches, the most among all current Division I players.
• Pitt striker Amanda West is one of only eight active players in Division I with 40 or more career goals. West has also recorded the fourth-most points among active players with 102.
• Tying for the most among all conferences, eight ACC student-athletes were named to the 56-member 2023 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday. • Four ACC standouts were named to the United Soccer Coaches Midfielders to Watch List. Virginia's Lia Godfrey, Clemson's Hal Hershfielt, Florida State's Taylor Huff and North Carolina's Sam Meza landed on the 38-member list, as the four honorees tied for the most among all conferences.
• Florida State's Jody Brown and North Carolina's Avery Patterson were named to the United Soccer Coaches Forwards to Watch List.
• Clemson's Megan Bornkamp, Notre Dame's Eva Gaetino, Virginia Tech's Victoria Haugen and Pitt's Katie Zailski were named to the United Soccer Coaches Defenders to Watch List.
• Duke's Leah Freeman and Florida State's Cristina Roque were named to the United Soccer Coaches Goalkeepers to Watch List.
• Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest were named to the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award.
• Nine ACC standouts were named to the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Best XI Teams, headlined by a nation-leading four players on the First Team (Florida State's Jody Brown and Lauren Flynn, North Carolina's Sam Meza and Duke's Leah Freeman). In addition, five newcomers were named to the Freshman Best XI.
• A total of 27 current and former ACC student-athletes and a pair of managers participated in this year's Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Four former Tar Heels, headlined by manager Sarina Wiegman, led England to the final but eventually fell to champion, Spain.
