This Week in ACC Women’s Soccer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – As the calendar turns to October and the final month of the regular season, the Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer conference schedule continues Thursday, October 2.

This week’s slate features nine matchups, highlighted by a top-25 showdown on Friday, October 3, when No. 2 Notre Dame hosts No. 23 Louisville. Winning their last three matches, the Cardinals made their debut in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this week. Kickoff on ACC Network Extra is set for 6 p.m. ET.

Three matches will air on ACC Network this week beginning on Thursday when No. 12 Wake Forest heads to NC State for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. On Saturday, ACCN will feature a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. ET, as SMU welcomes California, followed by No. 19 North Carolina welcoming Pitt at 4 p.m. ET.

Noting ACC Women’s Soccer
• ACC teams finished the non-conference portion of the regular season with 81 victories, tied for the most among all conferences.
• ACC teams went 15-9-7 (.597) against peer Power Four opponents and finished 5-2-5 (.625) against ranked teams.
• Notre Dame sophomore midfielder/forward Izzy Engle and Wake Forest freshman forward Kylie Maxwell have been named the ACC Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while California senior goalkeeper Teagan Wy was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played between September 22-28.
• A nation-best seven ACC teams are ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, including the top three spots: Virginia (No. 1), Notre Dame (No. 2), Stanford (No. 3), Florida State (No. 6), Wake Forest (No. 12), Duke (No. 14), North Carolina (No. 19) and Louisville (No. 23). California is currently receiving votes.
• A nation-best eight ACC teams are in the top 25 of the latest RPI, including four in the top 10: Virginia (No. 1), Notre Dame (No. 3), Stanford (No. 4), Wake Forest (No. 7), Duke (No. 11), Florida State (No. 12), North Carolina (No. 15) and Louisville (No. 21).
• Six ACC teams are in the top 15 nationally in total goals: Stanford (No. 1 – 44), Louisville (No. 2 – 41), Notre Dame (No. 5 – 36), North Carolina (No. 11 – 29), Florida State and Virginia Tech (No. 14 – 28).
• Three ACC players are in the top 10 in total goals: Izzy Engle (Notre Dame) ranks second with 11, Jasmine Aikey (Stanford) and Olivia Thomas (North Carolina) are tied for seventh nationally with nine goals apiece.
• Virginia’s Lia Godfrey has played in 95 matches, the most among all active Division I players.
