CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing five top performers from three different programs. A pair of distance medley relay teams from NC State and Virginia Tech earned both ACC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors to highlight the group.
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athletes of the Week
Virginia Tech Distance Medley Relay Team
Dylan DeCambre, Calvin Meyer, Christian Jackson, George Couttie
- Clocked a time of 9:15.05 in the Battle for Boston meet.
- The group shattered the Virginia Tech program record and posted the fourth-best time in NCAA history.
- Boasts the No. 1 time in the ACC and third-best time in the NCAA this season.
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Yekini Bowen, Virginia Tech, Jr. (Westmoreland, Jamaica)
- Made his Virginia Tech debut, posting a mark of 17.75 meters in the shot put.
- Won the shot put at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
- Moved into 10th-place all-time in Virginia Tech history.
ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athletes of the Week
NC State Distance Medley Relay Team
Bethany Michalak, Brooke Rauber, Angelina Napoleon, Sadie Engelhardt
- The group won the ASICS Sound Invite with a time of 10:46.00.
- Their time set a new NC State program record and clocked in with the sixth-fastest time in the nation this season.
- Sadie Engelhardt helped the Wolfpack come from behind on the final lap, recording a 4:23.55 split for the 1600-meter leg.
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Suzie Kennelly, Virginia, Fr. (Auckland, New Zealand)
- Posted a new personal-best distance of 15.34 meters (50-4) in the shot put at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
- Posted the seventh-best mark in the ACC this season.
ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Ava Rice, Virginia, Fr. (Haymarket, Va.)
- Finished as the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.40 seconds at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
- Also posted the second-fastest time in qualifying with an 8.50-second time.
- Her time is the 13th-fastest in the ACC this season.
